I must be the worst nurse in the world.

Now I need to figure out my next step. And it isn't nursing.

No specific reason. They think I "could" be unsafe.

Life is about relationships. Nursing, Stock Brokers, Walmart, Fire Department, Teaching, Politics, husbands, wives, second cousins twice removed, and the homeless standing by the freeway. I would encourage everyone posting in this topic to think about that before "choosing sides". What is the impact or import of the relationship on the work? How do I or you fit in? What makes you or I or Sues. happy, valid, fullfilled, contributory? Are we nurses for money? Are we truly altruistic? Narcissistic? How does that feeling effect others? I think we as nurses tend to box ourselves into one thinking mode and do not see the big picture. Getting fired is hard and it hurts. Beyond that, what is the lesson? Where does it go? How do we use it in our relationships? Our future? Our fault? Their fault? Does it matter? Are we bitter and going to get the "man"? Who "deserves" what we offer? Why do we "deserve" better? What is better?

We must, must own who we are and what we do. It is what hope and change is made of.

No, semele, it's okay. It's just hard - someone was determined to make me feel terrible about having been fired and wouldn';t let it go so I figured I'd give it one last explanation.

Thanks. I've been having a good time figuring out how to get everything I need for acceptance into Stonybrook's on-line BSN program. I can do it next semester, while waiting for the CPNE. I'm going to need A&P, social psych, and chem to be accepted. Which is fine, because I want more science classes.

Awww Sue, try not to let them get to you. Some people rather sling mud at others than just give them some support during a rough time. God forbid they ever need the support. Hang in there!

A lot of the most successful people in this world have been fired several times. It's a major shocker and one of the most stressful things that can happen to you. Take good care of yourself and give it some time. You can get another job and one that suits you better. You'll come back stronger than ever.

Sue, may I respectfully suggest that it may be time to close this thread? Even though most posters are trying to help with their comments, you are still getting questions that don't help your overall self-image and self-respect. i.e. the comment about being "whale poop at the bottom of the ocean." I hate it that this has happened to you, but it seems like the only way you can start looking up and out of this situation is to quit talking and reading about it, over and over. Please start another thread so that we can see how things are going for you, but try to let this one die a peaceful death. I really think it would be good for you.:deadhorse

BTW-all of you sleuths who think you can read between the lines-I sure hope nothing like this ever happens to you.:nono:

alot of really bad nursing leaders out there when you get canned for no reason which is what it sounds like get unemployment that will make you feel better and then they have to prove what you did instead of some line of crap good luck and dont give up because you didnt fit in :trout:there

Good luck Sue. Hope you can find a place where you can survive so that you can get those moments here and there where you feel good about having been able to help somebody. Too many nursing jobs drag down the morale of the dedicated employees. If more of the toxic were removed from the equation, then life would be more tolerable for those who care about what they do. They wouldn't burn out so much or have to spend their time job hunting. Positive thoughts for your future.

Thanks, bigsyis. The mods are welcome to close this thread if they'd like, but I'm no longer hurting about what happened. At least, not much. I'm moving along with school and life, and if unemployment ever comes through I'll be quite contented.

This does seem to strike a chord with a lot of people, as I've said, and leaving it open leaves it available for others to post to, and therefore keeps it close to the top.

As I said, though, it's up to the mods. I'm okay. And I do thank you.

How do you continue to get job opportunities with prior firings? I am having a hard time explaining mine- they won't even let me in the door. I am real close to throwing in the towel with my nursing. Any advice will be appreciated.

I don't tell them I was fired. I tell them why *I* decided to leave. Here, even if they like you do one will give a reference outside of HR. And they just confirm dates.
