Hello everyone
I have been very depressed since yesterday. I am working so hard in doing my pre requisites but my family doesnt approve my choice of becoming a nurse .
They say its too much stress and pressure and they see me more in education
im so sad. I really wanted to realize my dream and was ready to travel miles to become a nurse. I applied to a nursing school that is outside my city and hoping to receive an acceptance letter from them in april.
They say i should consider online schools and get an LPN instead of a BSN ,it would be less stressful.
Any advice? Should i rebel and still follow my dream?
Follow your heart!
It's quite simple. Nursing might be a tough job, however, you will realize that you won't be the same guy as you were before, but a new person, with new dreams and expectations.
Personally, my mother was against my decision to attend a BNS program. Instead, she insisted on sending me to a military Nursing academy, where I would have a miserable life, just for the sake of the salary.
Now, I have a great time at my uni, enjoying my undergraduate program and helping as many people as possible around me.
Take that scholarship and run! This is your life, and you only get to live it once. Your parents have lived their lives, got to make their own choices and mistakes, and now it's your turn. Follow your own path, because ultimately, you're in charge of your own happiness. LPN school is not less stressful, and with an opportunity to get a full paid B.S. degree, it makes absolutely no sense to take that route.
I will never forget what my grandmother told me more than 40 years ago when I informed her of my decision to become a nurse. She said "If you want to be a nurse. Then be a nurse. Nursing was what I wanted to do, but my father refused to allow it saying 'No daughter of mine is going to spend her life mopping blood. You will be a teacher and that's it'" My grandmother dutifully followed her father's wishes and became a teacher - a very inept and unhappy one. Follow your own life's calling. One day your parents will be gone and you will (likely) have many more years to live with the results of the career decision you are now making.
TAKE THAT SCHOLARSHIP AND GO! Full rides don't come around a 2nd time. Be a rebel, your life and your dreams trump what others want you to do. I find that people who want people to do less aren't saying it for you, they are saying it for them.
Go get em!
Thank you very much 'the commuter' for your wonderful advice . I just turned 19, and i received a scholarship, so during my BSN, i will be able to pay for my residence and my school fees with that scholarshipThank you so much once again :)

The best advice I have ever read.
@OP I am in the similiar boat with my parents they think nursing is going to take to long and want me to go into buisness or corrections. Its just how parents are I suppose.

@EnlightenedX please don't let ANYONE put a limit on your potential family or not. Don't settle for less than what you think you can be...you have a scholarship and i hope you use it to move forward with your BSN! No one can take way your education.
