So... best PDA software?

I've decided to splurge on a PDA, but looking at software is overwhelming with all the different drug databases, etc. (Do you need the general one AND the psych one?? Which general is best?) What do you guys prefer?

For a great drug guide go with FA Davis drug guide.

Try handheldmed.com. Other people like skyscape as well, and there are a bazillion others. I discovered pedi suite on skyscape, and I absolutely love it. other people dig epocrates, but I wanted more peds and icu info, and didn't want to wade through a milliion other things.

I've also found that if you go into the specialty websites (pedsonhand.com is a great one), you'll find that they've done reviews of the products, which helps a ton if you don't want to spend the rest of your life trying stuff out.

One final word of advice- just like the old apple/pc war, there are definitely two camps: palm OS and pocket pc. I bought an Ipaq 4355 (which has an integrated keyboard) and I absolutely love it. In the past, more medical software was produced for the palm OS, but these days, they're pretty equal. If you've used one or the other in the past, consider that....I fell in love with my fiancee's ipaq, so that made my decision for me.

You also might want to search these boards- there are several good threads on this topic, and I am by no means an expert.

Good luck!

I've got a friend who is a paramedic as well as a RN and she swears by eppcrates, if that helps any....

So which program is better, PEPID RN, Clinical Nursing Suite or skyscape Nursing Constellation: All-in-One Nursing Solution? Anybody have any opinions, I am going back and forth between these two and haven't made up my mind yet....

I bought the Constellation with my PDA but I still prefer Epocrates to the Davis drug guide.

I have both on my PDA and if I can't find a med on one, it's on the other.

I have used Epocrates for a few years and really liked it. I just recently was introduced to PEPID.com and Love it. It has a lot more than epocrates..sort of like having a med surg book in your pocket plus a drug resource...

I don't know if it's better than pepid but, I bought nursing constellation and have been very happy with it. It's a great deal for the price.

I just bought a Palm Lifedrive that has FOUR GIGS of storage. No more memory cards, plenty of room for software. Cost me $500.

:coollook:

This morning I asked my computer teacher which PDA I should buy. He suggested to buy the brand "PalmPilot" because the upgrades are cheaper, sometimes free, and because if we have to we can buy it in any store such as best buy, even a target or walmart. I as planning on buying a Dell Axim X30. He says that is a good one too but that we can only get the software updates from Dell. Now I am really confused on what to buy.

I just bought a Palm Zire 71 (refurb) online for about $100 and a 1GB SD memory card about $50 so I think I came out okay (I hope!). I got the memory card today, now if I could just get that PDA............I think I'll be getting the PEPID, I've heard so many things about it. If anyone has any other advice or tips on software, pass it on

I just bought Tungsten E2 $205, 512 add'l memory $59 and I got the davis drug guide, tabers med dict., lab values guide and a procedues guide from skyscape ($142 combined).

I start in september so I don't know if I'll need anything else yet. I just bought those because they were on the book list and I figured I would buy them for the PDA instead of the books.

I'm a great fan of Palm, but I'm pretty sure Dell uses the PocketPC operating system, in common with HP and several others. The availability issues aren't what they once were--there's a lot of stuff for PocketPC. Skyscape, for example, sells most of their programs in either format.

A friend just traded in his older HP for a new Palm T5, and he was able to re-download his software in the new format at no extra charge (from Skyscape) so if you buy one and later change your mind about the OS, you aren't stuck replacing all your software. I'd suggest checking with your vendor in advance, though.

I had a Tungsten E and still think it's the best buy on the market, but I broke mine, and I hated to lay out that much money to replace it, so I upgraded to a T5. Don't really know if it's worth the difference in price, but I do enjoy the bigger screen.

I've been really happy with the Davis Drug Guide and Taber's. I also have the free version of ePocrates, but I'm thinking of buying the full version. RNotes has been pretty useful, too. And I have an NCLEX review program (NCLEX 8, I think) for killing time at the laundromat, etc.
