Hello everyone!!
I just wanted to start a thread for the Spring 2020 term at SMU because I know applications are due soon (July 1st), feel free to drop your stats and all of that good stuff!

NursingCAS and SMU have different academic policies regarding Repeats, Incompletes, Withdrawals (these are considered Official), Withdrawal Unofficial (these are not recognized as being graded the same as Official Withdrawals), Credit/No Credit, or Pass/Fail.
I specifically spoke to NursingCAS this week to clarify whether W's were the same as WU's. W's are recognized as correctly and officially withdrawing from a course, whereas WU's are recognized as being incorrectly and unofficially withdrawing from a course. Therefore, according to NursingCAS's GPA calculation, WU's will be counted as an F grade and unfortunately will negatively affect your overall verified GPA.
However, SMU recognizes academic repeat policies, therefore if you received a W grade in one of your pre-requisite courses and retake the course for a better grade, the new and better grade will be used to calculate your pre-requisite GPA.

@emslee43 thank you so much for clarifying that. It makes a lot of sense now and I feel much more relieved! ?

Hi Cmerenda,
You're welcome ?
----------------- from the Oakland campus told me, SMU uses the highest grade that you receive for a pre-requisite to calculate into your application. SMU recognizes the academic repeat policy.
I am not sure how SMU will look at the overall verified GPA from all college course work(including the pre-requisites and all classes you have taken) that NursingCAS has calculated. I have the same concern as you, however looking at the SMU BSN program requirements, it does not state anywhere that they will be looking at the GPA of all your course work to determine your eligibility into the program.
