@kbena Samuel Merritt is the only school that includes the chemistry grade in the sciences gpa... and I got a C. So that hurt me terribly!
@MamaKat916 I am applying for the ABSN program!

Hey all! Seems to be a mix of those who applied. I applied to the BSN. Does anyone know how NursingCAS account for academic renewal/ grade forgiveness? I haven’t been able to figure that out since I have classes from college in 2008 from a previous major that were forgiven.

From my discussions with Katharine in Sacramento, they only count the higher of the two grades. You have to input all of the classes you’ve taken, but they don’t average the grades the way some schools do. So if you’ve taken the time to redo a class, your efforts are not in vain. You’ll only have the higher one counted toward your pre-requisites.
That being said, if your previous grade falls into the last 60 semester/90 quarter units that they tally for overall GPA (as they do in the ABSN program), both will count toward the overall GPA. If you’re talking about a grade replacement, I think they only count the newest grade because the old one was truly replaced. So I guess it’s the difference between true grade “replacement” vs. retaking a class to bump the grade (ie-first class was a C and you retook it for an A).
I hope that helps? This stuff can get confusing!

Hey everyone! Good luck! ABSN 2020 - San Mateo
Background: I started my application a bit late, and as such, two of my transcripts (a very small number of classes) have not arrived at CAS yet! I had to submit while they had not been received. I expect them there early next week. It allowed me to submit the app regardless.
I have a question: Does anyone know if CAS will update with the new information once it arrives or will I be automatically disqualified by SM for an incomplete application?
I think I'm a reasonably competitive applicant otherwise.
95% overall HESI including 100% on A&P
Pharmacology outstanding, otherwise pre-req complete
3.65 Science Pre-Req GPA
3.8 Last 60 GPA

Hi Knightkr,
I think that you should be fine. Your app will be submitted with the grades as “unverified” until they receive them. You could also contact Derick in San Mateo and ask if you should have a second set of transcripts sent directly for SMU (as you would for any classes that are currently in progress). But I don’t think it’ll affect your eligibility. It’s one of the things that’s somewhat out of your control (like LOR’s that are sent in after the deadline). Good luck!!

I’m a little nervous because I have 5 pre requisites that are still in progress. (I’m taking 2 classes over the Summer and then 3 in the Fall). I’m hoping this won’t reflect negatively on my application. I got an overall 85% on my HESI and I have 5 years paid experience in healthcare as a lab technician. Good luck to everyone applying!

Best of luck to you! I am so nervous as well but also excited, I guess we wait until October now.

I have 3 non-science prerequisites to complete still in fall. I don’t know my exact overall GPA right now, but I believe my science GPA is a 3.69. I have ICU volunteer experience as well. Just waiting for my second reference to complete their file so I can submit my application. You may want to verify how many prerequisite can be in progress because I read on an old thread someone said they had 4 prerequisites in progress and they got denied, but I’m not sure how true that is. Just a heads up and Best of luck! I’m nervous!

It was for an actual academic renewal. I finally received an answer from NursingCAS. They have to calculate all grades even if the renewal was granted. I'm nervous now because that greatly brings down my overall GPA. I am not sure how SMU with view this and how it will impact my application. Thanks for the reply!
I have paid for the nursing CAS to do my transcripts for me, anyone do this? It says they still have not received them!
