  1. Hey guys! Anyone out there starting in August? Have you received any info on scheduling for the first few weeks? :)
  2. Also, feel free to find me on facebook if you want to chat or just connect! I think I’m the only Katie Podobnik in Seattle ?
  3. For you California folks, Seattle Children’s is located in a neighborhood called Laurelhurst. This neighborhood and the ones immediately surrounding it (Windermere, Viewridge) are notoriously pricey and suburban. For a decent commute in more ‘happening’ parts, this side of the Montlake bridge check out the University District, Ravenna, Greenlake, Wallingford, and Phinney Ridge. South of the Montlake bridge is Montlake (lots of great greenery!), Madrona, and the up and coming Madison Valley. South Lake Union and Queen Anne are definitely in the heart of classic Seattle, but tend to be super pricey. Madison Park is close and beautiful but again, pricey, although there is one large apartment complex that is older but pretty affordable. If you’re thinking of living on the East Side (east of Lake Washington) such as Kirkland, Bothell, Woodinville, etc. there are some deals to be had and beautiful towns, but be sure to consider your commute. Due to Covid (and potentially off schedule with nights!) it may not be too horrible to commute in, but depending where you live you’ll have to contend with the bridge toll that charges you both ways and that can really add up. Feel free to send me an email at Knight.r.Kathryn @gmail.com if you have some questions!
  4. @jksmile996 congratulations! What unit? I accepted a position in the float pool, I’m excited! They told me the offers should be coming in via email by Friday. Not to worry yet!
  5. @jksmile996 and only ONE position. DANG. I knew it was competitive... I just didn't realize HOW competitive. hmmmmm. PICU leaving does change the game a bit! Any idea how many applicants they generally have?
  6. @jksmile996 It just came through for me. After an email that they're no longer hiring for PICU this go around. Darn.
  7. I just moved up to Seattle from the Bay Area in November, but grew up here. I’m a two block walk to Children’s. Fingers are crossed! What did you rank as preferences? I listed PICU, Cancer Care, and Acute Care Float. I wished they had more critical care options this time around- but would still be delighted with acute/ ambulatory!
  8. @Km14 I just received one as well, yay! Are you local?
  9. @hmelly anything today? Silence on my end.
  10. I know what you mean! I can't say I was SUPER confident but was feeling good about my senior practicum in the PICU, plus I was blessed to have an employee referral from a Neuro NP there. I am based out of Seattle but just moved back here. I was in California for the last 10 years and it's where I completed my nursing degree. I love your passion for peds! I think that goes a long way. The only other place I can think of around here that I know has a good new grad residency program with peds is Harborview. They have a burn/plastics unit for peds that is renowned. I know their application process for the unit is open now!
  11. Hey! Nope, I haven't heard anything yet. And I think you just hear silence if you're not selected for an interview... it feels brutal, ha! I'm also so curious about applicants vs spots. I read on a previous thread from a few years back that they invited 37 people to interview at a previous cohort, but there wasn't any mention of the total offers or number of applicants. I believe they should have all interview invites out by Friday? I'm not sure what the process is, but starting to feel discouraged!
  12. Thank you so much for this! I was only able to get 75 hours, but it was in the PICU, so I'm hoping that counts! Otherwise, I spent 135 hours doing infection control and Covid protocol teaching at a preschool. While it certainly involved parent and student education, it wasn't hospital/clinic based, so I feel a bit shy about that. I applied for the May cohort with PICU as my top choice. I live in Washington, but was a graduate from Cali. Not sure how that may help or hinder my candidacy. I'll keep you posted!
  13. Congratulations to everyone who received an offer! I imagine you're all ramping up to get started. ? I'm applying to the May cohort, and I would love to know what to expect for the first weeks/months as it relates to scheduling. Are any of you aware of your shifts/class day schedules, etc.? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  14. Hello! Anyone applying for the new grad residency program at Seattle Children's hospital? What units did you select? How many in-person clinical hours were you able to complete due to Covid? Has anyone been through the residency or interviewed and willing to offer some perspective? The good/bad/ugly and how to prepare for interviews?
  15. For anyone attending San Mateo - I started a FB Group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/557695681640024/
