SJVC Visalia LVN to RN Program

Nursing Students School Programs

Hi all,

Just thought I would start a thread to see who applied for the upcoming 2018 cohort. I also wanted to check in and see how your experience has been so far through the application process. As for me, so far, I think I'm doing really well! I scored a level 2 on the RN fundamentals exam, had a great interview, and now I'm locked in with my finances. Just waiting for the phone call from SJVC to tell me if I've been accepted or not.

I believe there are only 24 seats for the bridge program and over 100 applicants. It's more competitive than I thought, especially because it's a private college.

We're supposed to hear by October 15th. Good luck to everyone!! :)

Hi Jecell, I was wondering how did you study for your exam? I'm taking it this coming Monday and I'm extremely nervous!

I did the practice questions from the ATI Fundamentals book 9.0!! I have the PDF for it so if you want me to send it to you in email, I'd be happy to! I also downloaded the app called RN Mentor. Oh, and there are ATI practice questions on Quizlet. Just type in "ATI Fundamentals Practice A" or "ATI Fundamentals Practice B". Make sure to study the rationales and understand the pathophysiology! GOOD LUCK!!

go to ATItesting.com and buy Practice tests called RN fundamental A and B.

Save your money!! Those questions are on Quizlet.

Hi. I wanted to ask if you knew roughly about how many points you had earned during the application/interview process.

I'm wondering because of the point system ranking. I'm curious how many points you had since you made the cut.

Hi! Not sure how many points I received (can't remember), but according to one of my instructors whom I've grown very fond of, and who was also a part of my panel interview, I received the highest points possible. I received the full points for the interview, full points for the essay portion, full points for GPA, and I received a level 3 on the fundamentals exam.

Please note that just because you score low on the entrance exam, it doesn't determine your spot. One of our classmates actually got a Level 1 on the funds exam, but still made it because her interviewer really liked her. I think the interview portion is where it really counts. The instructors have even said themselves that if they REALLY like you, they will fight for you.

Good luck!

That's good to hear! The interviewer said she noticed that I'm very determined that it tells and I think that's a good thing! Do you know if anyone with a low gpa got in? I got overalls 2.8 for my gpa only 3pts! So o was really disappointed about that!

Yes! One of my classmates had a GPA of 2.5 so you definitely have a good chance! :)

To everyone who applied for Cohort 14 LVN-RN bridge, when/if you get chosen, please take my advice when I say PLS HELP ONE ANOTHER. You will be a unit and although 1 year is a short amount of time, it could feel like a lifetime once you're actually in the program. Cohort 13 is almost done (YAYYYY!!!) and one thing I learned that's super important is that even though you go in to the program with the mentality of "I don't need to make friends" or "I'm just there to look out for myself"... a helping hand can make all the difference. We almost lost some people, but classmates who stepped up and helped allowed these people the opportunity to continue their journey on to becoming a RN. There will be cliques for sure! But be observant. If you notice someone upset, simply ask if she or he is okay. Sometimes that's all it takes. Just wanted to lay that out there :)

Hi jecell.soliman thank you for responding and thank you for the encouraging words of wisdom. Going through a program like sjvc can be difficult especially with the short time spam everyone is in. During my lvn program that was only 12months long everyone grew very close and cheered each other on a time or two. I know at time there can be let downs but for your cohort to gather together and help each other when the time was needed in order to help everyone succeed is truely inspirational.

Congratulations as well on your success with your program.

Hi guys I am in the process of applying to the next year program. But I am worried about the school being private since I know a lot of them are not validated by the state when you try to go and get your license. Does anyone know if it is really accredited or not and if it would work to get your license in another state ? It's a lot of money to not be able to work as a nurse at any other state.

Thank you for responding. You are so kind to us and responding and helping us through this process we are going through. I feel that typing to others that have gone through what I'm going through and who is going through what I'm going through makes it all a little easier to take in. I'm really nervous and hoping for a spot but with almost 200 applicants and only 24 spots. I feel like having lost most of my points in gpa area was a let down. I'm not sure if something in my interview would trigger me to feel that it went full points worth or not.

The points for the fundamentals was a straight shot as long as you got 62% or higher. So matter what level you got as long as you received a level 2 you got the same points as someone who received a level 3. I hope I explained that right.

I enjoyed my interview and who I was Interviewed by. But I'm sure they all make everyone feel comfortable and at ease during the process.

The anticipation is going to kill me. Mid October can't come soon enough.

I know it's accredited I actually found them through the website with all the schools with accreditation through the state of California I forget the name sorry!... I've also heard that if you get you're licensing through the state of California that you can work anywhere in the US...
