SJVC Visalia LVN to RN Program

Published

Hi all,

Just thought I would start a thread to see who applied for the upcoming 2018 cohort. I also wanted to check in and see how your experience has been so far through the application process. As for me, so far, I think I'm doing really well! I scored a level 2 on the RN fundamentals exam, had a great interview, and now I'm locked in with my finances. Just waiting for the phone call from SJVC to tell me if I've been accepted or not.

I believe there are only 24 seats for the bridge program and over 100 applicants. It's more competitive than I thought, especially because it's a private college.

We're supposed to hear by October 15th. Good luck to everyone!! :)

Hey I was wondering if you guys had orientation yet and by any chance has anyone dropped. I'm wondering what are my chances of getting called. It's so nerve racking ☹ï¸

Mee too, I’m an alternate for the Spring 2023. Did you get in,?

Hey. I know how it feels to be selected as an alternate. I applied for the bridge 2018 and was an alternate. Last year they told us our number, I was number 3 on the first list. When the cohort started they only selected the top two alternates. A week into the program I got an email from Mitzi saying to have my finances ready, that there's a potential fallout, but I never heard anything else after that. I was ready even if they called me 3 weeks into the program but only the top two alternates were needed. I also applied for the 2019 bridge and unfortunately again I got an email that I'm an alternate but this time around they didn't specify what number like last year. It's so unfortunate. I didn't know this program was so competitive. It really sucks because I've been in this position before and I've wasted another year hoping to get into this program... I'm always hopeful but having a plan B is essential. I've missed out on starting other programs because SJVC is one of the closest bridge programs near where I live. Every year is different but if it ends up being like last year I would only feel confident being the number 1 alternate, maybe number 2.

Hi!! Yes, I’m an alternate for next year and they did not tell me what number I was!! This so nerve racking!!

Hi. I too was an alternate for SJVC in 2019. I feel like you have your hopes up so much because you do want to keep that chance open. However, RN / LVN -RN programs in California are so competitive that you will most likely be left with disappointment. Much like I was!
I completed my LVN to RN out of state. My friend did also. We lived in California and had online work and traveled very little. I became an RN in 2020. I have never regretted my decision because there was much sacrifice but well worth it. I am a mom of 5 and worked part time during my RN program. I am licensed in California as my program made sure to follow California BON requirements.
I spent approximately 12k total with my travels and tuition.. I honestly encourage you to seek out other options.. for example I know Kaweah hospital has a new program for their employees that will not only assist into a great opportunity to get into there ‘ nursing program’ but you would also have a job right during and after completion.
it’s hard to not put all your eggs in one basket but if you don’t search outside the box for an Nursing program opportunity you will only continue to apply year after year and hope to gain entry or still be an alternate.. if I hadn’t of searched other options I wouldn’t be a RN right now..

Yes, I’m already thinking about other options. I wouldn’t mind going out of state. Thank you for responding to my post.!

Can I ask what school you went to out of state?

Hello all, is anyone currently in the LVN to RN Bridge program for SJVC. I am wanting to pick some brains about the curriculum. Are they making it unbearably hard to pass? I had a teacher from my LVN program who took the program and even he said it was hard but I know everyone is different. Also I kind of made alot of money last year. What are those school payments looking like?
