SJVC Visalia LVN to RN Program

Nursing Students School Programs

Hi all,

Just thought I would start a thread to see who applied for the upcoming 2018 cohort. I also wanted to check in and see how your experience has been so far through the application process. As for me, so far, I think I'm doing really well! I scored a level 2 on the RN fundamentals exam, had a great interview, and now I'm locked in with my finances. Just waiting for the phone call from SJVC to tell me if I've been accepted or not.

I believe there are only 24 seats for the bridge program and over 100 applicants. It's more competitive than I thought, especially because it's a private college.

We're supposed to hear by October 15th. Good luck to everyone!! :)

Did they start calling you guys to meet with finacial aid and come up with funds to cover costs even before you take the RN fundamental test? I applied for 2019 cohort so just curious

You take the fundamentals test first. Then after that, they schedule an interview for you. On the day of your interview, you meet with fin aid after. Even before getting accepted, you still have to show that you either applied for Salliemae and got approved, or are willing to pay cash as you go on their payment plan. They have to see that you're financially ready prior to giving you a seat.

Ohhk Because I am taking the test next month, they already called me to go over with finacial aid. Maybe they are doing things different this year.

You are correct! Sometimes they switch it up each year :)

Hello, congrats this is awesome hope you are doing well in the program thus far. What was your status such as Fundamentals Test score or level?, GPA? how did the interview go? I am currently waiting to see if I got in to the 2019 cohort. Trying to see the students status that are being accepted.

Hi! Good job on starting the process! I scored a level 3, my science GPA was 4.0, my interview went very well (I had a 3 panel interview). I felt like they asked me more personal questions than anything else, which was fine with me :)

I've been hearing that about 175 people applied to the 2019 cohort. That's so awesome!! Good luck to you and I hope you get in!!

Hi, I was just wondering first off how you prepared for the testing? I'm currently going over the nursing fundamentals 8.0... also was it hard to set up an appt to take the test? I've emailed the director 3 diff times to try and schedule and she keeps telling me that I'm eligible for testing but she never schedules me, so I'm a little frustrated at this point bc I hate to feel like I'm bugging and we're approaching the cut off pretty soon ! Any advice is appreciated !

Hi! I'm so sorry you're going through that. First off, did you set up an appointment with Mitzi? She is the admissions rep for the RNs at SJVC and handles all of your appointments from there on out. If you want my advice, I would go in as a walk-in. It doesn't make you look bad; it just shows how bad you want it.

I also studied the 9.0 version. I didn't necessarily read over it. I just did the practice questions and read over the rationales, whether I got the questions right or wrong. There are also practice questions on Quizlet. Just type in "RN Fundamentals practice A & B". A lot of the questions, to me, were pretty much things you should already know as a LVN, so it wasn't too difficult. Feel free to ask any further Qs. Good luck!

Thank you for replying!! So I emailed her again and she said she thought she had already scheduled with me.. I took the ATI yesterday and got a 72% hope it's good enough! I also did the same and went over all the questions and rationales lol... I have my interview Thursday and I'm pretty nervous bc idk what to expect! She said the interview is considered 70% so I want to nail it!! And the essay to write before hand is it just about why you want to be a nurse? Any advice ?

I'm so sorry for the late reply! How'd you do!?

I don't think it went bad it seemed like it went ok, I just didn't get full points for my GPA which sucked bc it's worth 15... and I have been unemployed bc I decided to take on school this year bc it was too hard working nights going to school and taking care of my kids, and I don't know if that was a bad thing for me or not. I hope not! Hoping everything works out!

Awww that's definitely something to think about! What's great about this program is that you're in school 3 days a week (except for the first 6 weeks, which is 4 days a week). School 3 days a week made it doable for me to still work full time and take care of my kids and husband. I've maintained a 4.0 GPA in all terms, so trust me when I say it's doable!! :) But hey, if you don't need to work, then even better! GOOD LUCK!

Yea I've heard a lot of different things about how many days a wk you go, but good to know for sure! That's awesome for you & you're almost done! I hope I can get in and do the same ! Thanks !!

Hi Jecell, I was wondering how did you study for your exam? I'm taking it this coming Monday and I'm extremely nervous!
