SJRCC (Orange Park/Palatka) Information

Published

Hi I am currently enrolled at FSCJ and I will hopefully be applying to a nursing program in Fall 2010. I have looked at the requirements at SJRCC to apply to the nursing program and they are somewhat similar to FSCJ but as everyone knows they give priority to Duval and Nassau counties and I live in O. P. I see that May of 2010 is the last time that they will accept scores from the NET testing and then begin to accept scores for the HESI testing. Has anyone taken the HESI? I also see that there is a course called Professions of Caring which I guess is a class that is not required but may be informative about different health care careers. Is this a class offered online or is it on campus? Has anyone taken this class? Would you say that most of the nursing applicants have taken this class before applying? Also how many students do they take a sememster? Are the applicants accepted based on the number of students that graduated from the previous class? I would like to know if anyone has any insight about the SJRCC program. Please and Thank You for all the information that you are able to provide. :D

Great! I will see you in Orientation on the 30th! I hear it's an all day affair but I am so excited the time will probably blow by!!:)

Hey guys, I was a student at SJRCC, but moved and now I go to FSCJ. Im still hoping to apply to SJRCC. I know this is a silly question but how do u calculate your gpa? What classes do you use? I use to know how to calculate it in highschool but I totally forgot

Hello!

To calculate your gpa, you take the pre-requisites and for each letter grade, they carry a total "weight" which is:

A=4 POINTS

B=3 POINTS

C=2 POINTS

Add up the total number of points for the classes and divide that number by the number of classes and you get the total GPA.

Example: (2) A'S, (3) B'S AND (1)C= 4+4+3+3+3+2=19 19/6=3.1 GPA

I'm curious what the GPA cutoff was for this go round? Do you mind sharing your GPA's! Thanks.

Cool, got it:) Now how would u figure in a class like AP or Micro, where lab is one grade and lecture is a separate grade? Do you count that as 2 classes or 1?

If I'm not mistaken it's the same way, just different credit hours. Ex: if you take AP and your lecture grade is an A and your lab grade is a B

Lab 1.0 (credit hours) x 3.0=3.0

Lecture 3.0(credit hours) x 4.0=12.0

for a total of 15.0 points

I sent you a PM

Do they look at ur points or gpa? I have heard different people say both

Yes the application is different from the 1st time I applied. Now, they have 3 categories that you can fit into with Category 1 being the best. If you go to the SJRCC website and download a copy of the app, it will show you the criteria for each category. I fit in Category 1 which made my chances better but I am sure they will have others from the other categories that get accepted too!

Did any of you guys get your email from the program with all the "info"????

Hello jkvanso!

No I haven't received any emails yet. I think St. John's is on Spring Break this week so we should receive some kind of information next week :idea:.

I know the deadline to turn in the responses is on the 23rd and the orientation is on the 30th so I am figuring we will get an email some time between then!

I didn't mail my letter until this weekend. I wasn't sure if others mailed theirs in and got the "email" that we're going to get!

I know we have to have CPR. Has anyone signed up for this yet? Im curious as to the best/cheapest place to go! Any ideas?

Also, I have a girlfriend that started in January and her advice was to get some sleep now!:lol2:
