SJRCC (Orange Park/Palatka) Information

Published

Hi I am currently enrolled at FSCJ and I will hopefully be applying to a nursing program in Fall 2010. I have looked at the requirements at SJRCC to apply to the nursing program and they are somewhat similar to FSCJ but as everyone knows they give priority to Duval and Nassau counties and I live in O. P. I see that May of 2010 is the last time that they will accept scores from the NET testing and then begin to accept scores for the HESI testing. Has anyone taken the HESI? I also see that there is a course called Professions of Caring which I guess is a class that is not required but may be informative about different health care careers. Is this a class offered online or is it on campus? Has anyone taken this class? Would you say that most of the nursing applicants have taken this class before applying? Also how many students do they take a sememster? Are the applicants accepted based on the number of students that graduated from the previous class? I would like to know if anyone has any insight about the SJRCC program. Please and Thank You for all the information that you are able to provide. :D

Hi Futurenursenesha, I do have all my prereqs done for SJRCC but i'm still undecided if I want to attend this college, mainly because I want to enroll in an evening/weekend program. But, at the same time, i'll still trying to keep up with their new requirements just in case I can eventually afford to quit my job and not work while in college. I'm strongly considering DSC and although i'll have over an hour drive (i'm in Palatka), they do offer an evening program. They also don't consider what county you reside in for selection purposes- so this college may be worthwhile for you to look into as well.

I'm with you. I cant decide if I wanna attend SJRCC or not. The eve/we program would be nice for me as a mom. I dont think I could get into st johns either. I dont live in clay and I didnt take professions of caring nor have I taken all my prereq's a SJRCC either, so Im missing out on a ton of points. Do you have any idea how many points you have? I just found out I made a B in AP1 and Im nervous that it's going to come back and bite me lol

Thank you NurseU I have heard about some people driving a hour away to DSC. I didn't even really think about it but hey I will look into it again and see the requirements. Sometimes even if the school is a hour away it still is worth it. You have to do what you have to do sometimes.

No I have not taken the NAT yet but I will soon. I need do some more practice test first. I want to be prepared before I go in head first even though they say you can't study for the test but it doesn't hurt to brush up on some material that I haven't seen in 4 years.

I agree, I atleast wanna brush up on basic arithmetic, fractions, ect...I think I'm going to take it once without studying and then take it again after I take micro

The new point system have me at 138 pts total, NET Scores are 64%, 81% and 72% with a 3.6 gpa. I decided to take this term off and not take any classes at SJRCC but will pick back up next term and take my final prereq for Daytona State (a speech course) so I can apply during their May '10 period. Good luck in the hybrid A&P course - it is doable but as with any online course, it is going to require dedication on your end; however, this course is going to require a little more. Make sure you take advantage of the open labs and contact your professor whenever you are unsure about something. I'm sure you will do well - if you're passionate about becoming a nurse, you're going to do whatever it takes to fullfill that dream. I say that from experience... I decided to select days for Daytona State but I do risk having to work PT or quit all together. This wasn't an easy decision for me to make because i've worked for this same company for 18 years and i'm so afraid of abandoning this security! Everytime I think about leaving, I get an upset stomach!!

i was wondering if anyone who has been at sjrcc palatka could tell me the schedule they have during the year. for example, for semester one, do you have clinicals mwf from 8am-5pm. and then class on t and th from 8-10 am typically? i am trying to plan for going to nursing school there, but was curious about the schedule since it is primarily clinicals during the week and i know these may vary for each semester..i am guessing. i have a child and am curious about the child care i will need from my husband and maybe pre-school if i do get in to the school. thanks for any help!!!

Is anyone applying to the summer 2010 program?

Im applying for spring '11 right here

Going for Fall 2010 at Palatka...so applying in May.

Does anyone know what your gpa needs to be in order to be competitive since they only pick 36 applicants? I'm curious what the gpa cutoff was last semester?

I could be wrong, but I think they group everyone that has a 3.0 GPA and better into a group. Then they rank them by points but I am not sure. I applied for Spring 2010. Did anyone else? I cant remember what the cutoff points were last time. I applied but didnt have enough points. I have more points this time, so hopefully! I want to say the cutoff was 134 last time but I cant remember, if I find the letter they sent me, I will share it.

I did apply for summer '10 but I also applied for FSCJ. Do you mind me asking what your GPA and points were for this application period? Also, which group were you ranked last time? I'm not sure I have enough points or a high enough GPA! Oh well, guess I will see! Were you able to take the HESI or did you use your NET scores? I wonder how those grades come into play?
