Hi there i am a student nurse can any one explain to me the difference between systemic inflammatory response syndrome (sirs) and sepsis.
Are they the same
well Bone et al 1992 states that " SIRS response is by an infection in sepsis but can also be caused by any other major insult to the body, such as MI,acute pancreatitis or trauma.SIRS IS the bodys response to a variety of insults i.e infection ,trauma , MI and is manifested by two or more of the following .(Dellinger et al ,2004)
- hypotermia ,hypertermia / >38 or
- tachycardia >90 BPM
- tachypnoea .20 breaths per minute or PaCo2
- high or low white cell count >12,000 or
Sepsis - this is a known or suspected infection accomanied by evidence of two or more or the SIRS criteria.(Robinson,2005)
Am i wrong then ????
you seemed to have dropped the h out of the th in both hypothermia and hyperthemia Ive only heard this from family its an Irish thing. Pretty sure standard English spelling in R o Ireland is the same as Nothern Ireland and their are very few non bilingual gealic speakers if that is your first language.
please refer to your notes and your textbooks. the internet is also a good place to look.
we are here to support you, not do your homework. doing your own research will be most beneficial to you in the future, but even more so to your future patients.
a) wrong.
b) rude.
suck it up, do your homework. when you graduate, please don't apply to anywhere i'm working... i don't want to have to precept someone who can't be bothered to politely ask for needed help. (not, "i can't be bothered" help)
still..awful testy..tsk tsk.
:angryfire
a lot of people come on here looking for help with their studies!! chrissy student was not the one being rude...and i would think some of the responses would be enough to make anyone testy!!
good luck, chrissy student!
As was suggested, your questions are best addressed in the student forum.
I am probably the least testy or hasty people around. I enjoying teaching and precepting new nurses. When questions arise, I ask them to think for themselves, to tell me what they know. If they can't, they are referred to the appropriate reference. Their responses later are of thanks for the extra learning experience. This is how I was taught and how I learned.
Best wishes. No more from me.
