Sir Bill LOTR

What you did not know about Windows XP

Recently one of my friends, a computer wizard, paid me a visit.

As we were talking I mentioned that I had recently installed Windows XP on my PC. I told him how happy I was with this operating system, and showed him the Windows XP CD. To my surprise he threw it into my microwave oven and turned the oven on. Instantly I got very upset, because the CD had become precious to me, but he said: 'Do not worry, it is unharmed.' After a few minutes he took the CD out, gave it to me and said: 'Take a close look at it.' To my surprise the CD was quite cold to hold and it seemed to be heavier than before. At first I could not see anything, but on the inner edge of the central hole I saw a inscription, an inscription finer than anything I have ever seen before. The inscription shone piercingly bright, and yet remote, as if out of a great depth:

'I cannot understand the fiery letters,' I said.

'No, but I can,' he said. 'The letters are Hex, of an ancient mode, but the language is that of Microsoft, which I shall not utter here. But in common English this is what it says:'

One OS to rule them all, One OS to find them,

One OS to bring them all and in the darkness bind them...

:chuckle

Cute! As a former Computer Science major and a LOTR fan, this was funny.

Married to a genuine geek, here, and have heard all the funny stories about microwaving CD's and other things electronic. They are easily amused, aren't they? LOL

However, this is apparently not a good idea as there will be changes to the CD, including sparks and flashing. I heard about damage to the microwave as well.

Of course, he could've been wrong, but I'm not sure I'd chance it with a CD I valued, unless I'd made a backup. And used somebody else's microwave.

I guess I didn't quite get the joke.... :imbar sometimes I wonder if I have the intellect to make it in the 21st century! LOL

:roll :roll :roll watch out, the mods are going to get after you about promoting the microwaving of cds ;)

Specializes in ICU.

NAH! I'll just hand him over to Sir Bill. :roll

Chris this is funny if you are a geek and a fan of the Lord of the Ring. That is what the joke is in reference to.

:D

So don't be hard on yourself, there is always someone else ready to do that for you.
