simmons online fnp

wondering how the program is going for anyone that is in it, thanks, applied tonight and just want to make sure I pick the right school.

I wanted online synchronous classes, less than 2 yrs to finish, and a good pass rate (although simmons online doesn't have a pass rate because it's new, their on campus one is 100%) and only 1 to 2 visits to campus max. To me, Simmons was the right fit, I originally wanted Georgetown and applied there as well. I was denied admission to them. Yes cost is a factor, but the reason I did not choose chamberlain is because it's almost 3 yrs...I will have been working almost 12-18 months by the time I'd only be half way through chamberlains program. I also looked at online reviews and here on allnurses...I think Ohio University you have to live near the school...might want to check that. Ohio state university just opened a new FNP program online this year as well. I also looked at the University of Cincinnati (my app is still being reviewed) and had I not gotten into Simmons I would have gone there if I was accepted. It's a very personal decision. One you have to make for yourself and your family =) good luck!

When did you apply again?

So we get a phone call telling us we've been accepted or not?? I have been expecting an email! Phone calls are a little more exciting!

Congrats Tasha and msladynurse4life!!! I just finished my application to Simmons and they are waiting for 2 of my recommendations so i have a long 3-4 weeks to wait. I am currently enrolled at Chamberlain FNP online and i would not recommend it. It consists of a lot of busy work such as discussion boards and 6-8 page papers which was fine for BSN, not optimal for FNP. I'm only in the second semester and i feel that the format is not good for becoming an NP and they do not set up or assist with preceptors for clinicals. I looked at Georgetown but it is really expensive so i was opting for Simmons because it's the same format and less money. I really like the 18 month school time too.

I got a phone call from my enrollment adviser, and then several emails after his call explaining my next steps (papers to print off and sign and fax back etc), how to pay the enrollment fee ($650) to hold my seat, and what conditions needed to be met prior to the first day of classes. (I am required to take a Statistics refresher course because I only got a C in stats last year) and have my final official transcript from my BSN sent as soon as the degree has been conferred. Classes for me start March 24, 2014! I opted for the full time program, even though it's going to be a LOAD of work from what I"m hearing on facebook by current students. I will probably need to quit my full time job and go to home health or a nursing home picking up PRN or weekend shifts. I think most have said they are putting in typically 30hrs per week just in school work for the full time program!

I applied Oct 21, they had all my stuff on Oct 29th and I found out Nov 18th of acceptance...I did pester my advisor to death (poor guy) with weekly emails and sometimes TWICE weekly emails to the end, asking "any updates?" hahahahah...he was sweet though and would just reply "not yet, hopefully soon!" and "hang in there, we should know soon" LOL

My application was complete on Nov. 6th and I just got word today, Nov. 20th that I'm accepted for the January 2014 cohort. It didn't take that long for me to complete the application. It all depends on how fast you can get everything in.

Yes, I got a phone call first. Then my admission counselor sent follow up emails of the next steps to starting the program.

I have to take the Statistics refresher course too, because my last class was about 7 years ago! I was given two options for the course and I'm not sure which one is better. I'm going to go part-time. I'm starting a case manager position next month working 40hrs a week and I have kids, so I'm kinda worried about the clinical portion. I hope I figure something out by that time. I'm going to try to stay positive!
