I just found out today I was accepted into the full time March 2014 cohort. I wanted to see if anyone else on Allnurses would be attending Simmons in March...or any other cohort feel free to post...with me! I also joined the facebook page as well. Looking forward to this new adventure next year!

Congratulations and good luck!

I was so overly excited, I got online and ordered myself a T-shirt from the college =) hee hee hee!

Congrats!!! I've applied to Simmons and South. I like both programs for different reasons that fits my needs. Both schools reps have been super helpful!! Simmons emailed me and asked for me to get my transcript from my ADN program. She thought my résumé and purpose statement were great and waiting on 1 reference. If I get in both programs I truly don't know what I'll do.

So far i've not heard of ANYONE not getting into South, they were originally on my list but after some research I decided it was best to look elsewhere. I have heard of two people so far being denied Simmons, but that's about it, they are a new program though. My reasoning was Simmons has a 100% pass rate for their on campus FNP program and they find preceptors for me, South wouldn't/couldn't give me a pass rate at all and wanted a list of preceptors prior to even enrolling. I also applied to University of Cincinnati and am due any day to find out if I was accepted or not (which I believe I will be) however, I have decided that Simmons really is where I want to go! =) 18mo full time and done! part time is only 24mo, and South is 27-28 mo long.

Best of luck to you whichever way you go! I"m a firm believer that you get what you put into a program regardless!

You'll do great at Simmons!! Some of your post led me to narrow down my choices. Thanks for all thd post and info! This will be my first completely on line experience! A little nervous...

Good luck to you as well! I'm sure you will be fine. Doing course work online is not horrible once you get the hang of it. You will learn the system well withing a week or two and be a pro before the end of your first course! =) Let us know who you decide to go with and where you get accepted to! =)

Congrats Tasha on your acceptance. I have read several of your posts so I know this is exciting for you. I, too, am a two time Excelsior grad so we have traveled down the same path only my RN to BSN journey was a tad bit longer...LOL.. I am in my first semester of a traditional AGNP program and am really enjoying it. They actually incorporate some of our clinical hours into our Adv health assessment and pharm courses (we actually get to spend little time with a pharmacist which should be interesting) so next semester I will get a little preview of whats to comes next fall. Anyway, just wanted to say congrats and good luck in grad school.

Hey there fellow EC grad! It's so nice to come across other alumni =) I'm proud to be an EC grad, and sort of wonder how many of us did AAS then BSN and MSN after!?! =) I'm really looking forward to this adventure. I know it's going to be tough to work out a school/work schedule but whatever needs to be done I will do it! =) congrats on school and much success to you as well! I was going to do AGNP, but figured FNP gave me a broader spectrum...plus who knows I may actually end up liking to take care of kids lol =)

I am a proud grad too. It amazes me how many people have misconceptions about the program though. Its not for the undisciplined or those looking for a easy program that's for sure. Had EC had an NP program, I surely would have stayed there.

I have heard a lot of people echo what you said about the FNP. I went back and forth with that decision for months. My program director was actually the person who helped me make my final decision. The difference between the FNP and AGNP at my school is just a peds course and clinical so if I find that I am having difficulty as a AGNP, the director said I could come back for the one semester to get the post-master's certificate or I can change concentrations later in the program (the fact that the school does not lock me into my initial decision made my choice a little easier). I have absolutely no desire to do peds. I love them on a personal level but I just don't want to take care of them professionally..LOL. I actually want to work with geriatrics--its the population I have the most experience with and enjoy-- hoping to do house calls or maybe travel between several LTC facilities after I get some experience under my belt. Besides, I see lots of ads, in my neck of the woods, that say FNP or AGNP so at least for right now I don't think I will have any difficulty. But I guess time will tell.

I went from NA EMT/CMT LPN RN BSN route too.. All in traditional settings though.

I was a MA, LPN, RN, BSN. Took a long time to this point, but I got married really young (20) and had two children back to back before I even became a MA. Then I had a third child a few years later. So I had to work to help support my family. Very grateful to have such a supportive husband and the various paths to becoming a nurse. I am sure that if BSN was the entry point and online programs did not exist, I would not be a nurse right now.
