Why are preceptors not provided in MSN programs?
This policy makes no sense to me. One of the reasons I chose my school was because it arranged preceptors (the other being its great local reputation). It is one of only two schools near me that does this -- unbelievable. It is absolutely ridiculous that these schools are allowed to charge tens of thousands of dollars and not provide you with quality preceptors. Do they refund a portion of your tuition if you are not able to locate a preceptor? Of course not, that would be too much like right.

Passed ANCC FNP today
Congrats!!! Good luck in your new position.

Seeking a preceptor
Try your local NP organization. The one here in Ohio lists preceptor needs on their website and Facebook pages. Good luck in your search....finding a preceptor should not be the hardest part of NP school....sadly, it often is.

Are textbooks this expensive????
It is the same exact material including the chapters and page numbers. I was afraid to purchase one until a friend of mine told me she does it all the time and never had an issue. I had no problems.

Are textbooks this expensive????
Great point...one book I needed was $150. Found the international version on eBay for $40. No difference in the content. Although sometimes the pictures are in black and white.

Private duty lpn, rn supervisor??
I live in Ohio and serve as a supervisor for several medicaid IP LPNs. The RN is responsible for performing an initial visit to develop the poc/485 and obtaining doctor's orders. S/he must also perform supervisory visits every 60 days and renew the 485. Make sure whoever you use as your supervisor knows Ohio medicaid rules....If they do not do their job properly, it can cost you money at your yearly review (i.e 485s must be signed by the doctor prior to the start of your cert period, if it is not and you work and bill out for it, the state will make you reimburse those funds because it is considered working without a doc order). The RN must also be available for consult if there is a change in the client's condition. LPN are allowed to directly bill medicaid for their services in Ohio.

Anyone NOT work as a bedside RN while in school?
This job kind of fell into my lap. I have an independent provider number for Ohio Medicaid. They list all IPs on their website which enables potential clients to reach out to you if they are interested. My client is not a medicaid recipient (private pay), but uses the site to find his nurses. I work 40 hrs/week-- 2 12's and a 16. The other nurses on the case are really flexible so changing schedules, if needed, is not a problem. It is truly the perfect job for me right now....it also doesn't hurt that his family treats us like we are part of the family. This past summer, they payed for my husband and me to go to New York City for 4 days as a thank you for taking care of my client.

Anyone NOT work as a bedside RN while in school?
Have you thought about private duty? I took on a case when I started school and love it. After I take care of his needs, it leaves me with plenty of down time to work on class assignments. It was the best decision I made as I am usually able to get the bulk of my class work done there and still have a life outside of school and work.

If you like to use ebooks, you can rent them from this website Online Textbooks, eTextbooks, textbook eBooks, exam copies | CourseSmart The rentals are good for a year so if you need them again for another course you will still have access to them. Much more affordable option as well as buying from Amazon.

New Grad RN got a job offer for homecare nursing but only 1 day orientation?
My first HH job provided me with 2 weeks orientation and I was not a new nurse. I would have been scared out of my mind to be in your position. As a brand new nurse, there is no way I could have done this job with only one day orientation. But unfortunately, most agencies do not provide adequate orientation.

Nurse with anxiety/depression
I can relate to your post. I have suffered from anxiety my whole life. Up until the past few years, its was manageable. After it started affecting my sleep and BP and me trying all kinds of herbal supplements, I finally went to see a psychiatrist. Best decision I ever made. Its only been a couple of weeks, but the anxiety is improving. I do not feel so stressed and my mind is quiet (that never was the case before). I start CBT this week and with any luck will be able to wean off the SSRI. Hang in there and if you can, go see a psychiatrist. They are a great help.

Are you, or have you ever been an APN student?
Good luck to you !! I am sure you made the right decision.

Are you, or have you ever been an APN student?
I agree. The market does appear to be saturated and the school you attend may very well be the one advantage you have over another applicant. Cost should a factor when making a determination as to what program you will attend, but it should not be the most important factor. I got into all three of the programs I applied to and ended up choosing the most expensive one because it had all the criteria most important to me. School is an investment in myself. I would not buy a house just because it was the least expensive one I looked at, I would buy the one that gave me as many of the items I was looking for in a home within a certain price point (possibly even going a bit over budget to get the most important things). That was the same approach I used when deciding on a NP program. Good luck to you.
