  1. Why are preceptors not provided in MSN programs?

This policy makes no sense to me. One of the reasons I chose my school was because it arranged preceptors (the other being its great local reputation). It is one of only two schools near me that does this -- unbelievable. It is absolutely ridiculo...
  2. Passed ANCC FNP today

Congrats!!! Good luck in your new position.
  3. Seeking a preceptor

Try your local NP organization. The one here in Ohio lists preceptor needs on their website and Facebook pages. Good luck in your search....finding a preceptor should not be the hardest part of NP school....sadly, it often is.
  4. Are textbooks this expensive????

It is the same exact material including the chapters and page numbers. I was afraid to purchase one until a friend of mine told me she does it all the time and never had an issue. I had no problems.
  5. Are textbooks this expensive????

Great point...one book I needed was $150. Found the international version on eBay for $40. No difference in the content. Although sometimes the pictures are in black and white.
  6. Private duty lpn, rn supervisor??

I live in Ohio and serve as a supervisor for several medicaid IP LPNs. The RN is responsible for performing an initial visit to develop the poc/485 and obtaining doctor's orders. S/he must also perform supervisory visits every 60 days and renew the...
  7. Anyone NOT work as a bedside RN while in school?

This job kind of fell into my lap. I have an independent provider number for Ohio Medicaid. They list all IPs on their website which enables potential clients to reach out to you if they are interested. My client is not a medicaid recipient (priva...
  8. Anyone NOT work as a bedside RN while in school?

Have you thought about private duty? I took on a case when I started school and love it. After I take care of his needs, it leaves me with plenty of down time to work on class assignments. It was the best decision I made as I am usually able to ge...
  9. Are textbooks this expensive????

If you like to use ebooks, you can rent them from this website Online Textbooks, eTextbooks, textbook eBooks, exam copies | CourseSmart The rentals are good for a year so if you need them again for another course you will still have access to them....
  10. My first HH job provided me with 2 weeks orientation and I was not a new nurse. I would have been scared out of my mind to be in your position. As a brand new nurse, there is no way I could have done this job with only one day orientation. But unf...
  11. Nurse with anxiety/depression

I can relate to your post. I have suffered from anxiety my whole life. Up until the past few years, its was manageable. After it started affecting my sleep and BP and me trying all kinds of herbal supplements, I finally went to see a psychiatrist....
  12. FNP possible?

Fellow EC grad here as well. You most definitely can do it. Good luck!!
  13. Passed my CPNE :) !!

Congrats....its been some years since I went through that experience, but I remember it well.
  14. Are you, or have you ever been an APN student?

Good luck to you !! I am sure you made the right decision.
  15. Are you, or have you ever been an APN student?

I agree. The market does appear to be saturated and the school you attend may very well be the one advantage you have over another applicant. Cost should a factor when making a determination as to what program you will attend, but it should not be th...
  16. Simmons College FNP March 2014 cohort

I agree with both of you. I have so much respect for each and every one of these professions having once been in their shoes. Yeah its taking (what feels like) an eternity to reach my goal, but I truly believe it has made me a better nurse. I lear...
  17. Simmons College FNP March 2014 cohort

I was a MA, LPN, RN, BSN. Took a long time to this point, but I got married really young (20) and had two children back to back before I even became a MA. Then I had a third child a few years later. So I had to work to help support my family. Very...
  18. Help me decide NP school :)

I agree with besaangel. I would chose Concordia. It appears to be more flexible and to be just as good of a program so why not save a little money. I do not think the fact that the school is not as well known in your area is an important factor. ...
  19. Acceptance with not so hot gpa

All the programs that I have seen (too many to count via google search) only require 3.0. Some will accept you slightly below that depending on GRE scores which will likely be required for anyone under 3.0. If you GPA stays above that, I think you ...
  20. Simmons College FNP March 2014 cohort

I am a proud grad too. It amazes me how many people have misconceptions about the program though. Its not for the undisciplined or those looking for a easy program that's for sure. Had EC had an NP program, I surely would have stayed there. I h...
  21. Simmons College FNP March 2014 cohort

Congrats Tasha on your acceptance. I have read several of your posts so I know this is exciting for you. I, too, am a two time Excelsior grad so we have traveled down the same path only my RN to BSN journey was a tad bit longer...LOL.. I am in my ...
  22. Who works and goes to school full time?

I work full-time and attend a full-time AGNP program. I have not had any issues. I am quite the planner, so I have my time budgeted well. In preparation for school, I did change jobs-- I left the hospital and am currently doing private duty so I c...
  23. Chamberlain College Of Nursing- FNP program

Chamberlain's FNP program is fairly new (I don't think they have graduated a class yet). I am not a student there but I did take several classes there for my BSN. I had no issues with the school other than the cost which was why I transferred. ...
  24. AANP Family Nurse Practitioner Exam Passed

Congrats to you . Good luck in your first FNP position.
  25. Are you, or have you ever been an APN student?

I am a APN student nearing the end of my first semester. I can relate to your feelings regarding the abundance of information out there. I must have looked at fifty programs (online and B&M). The "finding your own preceptor" really had me nerv...
