Greetings All!!!
First I want to tell everyone how much I enjoy reading all the postings. I check this board everyday and sometimes more than once a day. I can't get enough!!! I am hoping to apply to CRNA school next year. I am currently completing my RN-BSN program with the University of Delaware. I recieved an invitation to join the national honor society for nursing. I assume that this could only be a benefit in the application process?? Is anyone a member and if so did it help at all (or even mentioned) during your application process?
Thanks for any response

Glad to have you with us.......so welcome to the family. I have never joined the NHS so can't answer your question. Sounds like a great thing to belong to though and very impressive on your application I may assume. Hopefully someone who can answer your question will drop by soon. Good luck to you and glad to have you as a member. :)

Can't hurt. I had it on my application to CRNA school, and it is an honor that looks good. But if you do a search, you will find that I also resigned not long afterward, owing to what I saw as a bias in the organization.
My suggestion is to go ahead and accept the invitation, put it on your application, then make up your own mind as to whether or not the organization is worth your continued membership fees.

I rec this as well as this is basically what I did. Put it on the application, get in, then just don't renew the subscription. Read the mag they send out and look at their agendas.

I have been a member several years. The biggest advantage to me is the ability to network with area nurses. My field is education and since most of the members are involved with education in some regard (STT emphasizes research) the contacts have been helpful to me in doing my job and in maintaining relationships with people whom I respect. Congratulations on your accomplishment!

I also got an invitation last week that I accepted. I was just happy to receive the honor of being accepted into the honor society. I didn't feel so bad about all the late night studying, the migraines, the weight gain, and no social life anymore. My good friend and I both got accepted, and we thought of it as 1 accomplishment (with many more to go) in our nursing careers. Congrats to all who joined:balloons:

Good luck in CRNA school. :balloons:
Unfortunately, out of the 5 LPN-to-RN students in my class, I was the only one who did not get tapped for Sigma. Missed by the skin off my orifice.
I have heard both sides of the story on whether or not to join.....I would say try it for a year. Why not.

Stick it on the resume, don't worry about the rest, cuz it's pretty much worthless.
I was in STT in school, and it did not do anything at all. pretty sad really. I think it is mostly a resume builder honor society, but that is just my opinion.
Basically it looks good, and you won't have to do much. You can't complain when you have a milion other things to worry about.

I received my BSN from the University of Delaware. I am now @ SRNA @ Drexel University. I'll be finished in May. I am in the Sigma Theta Tau Group. I had asked my advisor the same question that you ask. He said that it does look good on your list of credentials. It's definitely something to be proud of. I'm sure there are other advantages to joining, but I honestly have not had time to look into it! So my answer is pay the $70 or some odd dollars and join! Who knows, you may regret not signing up someday. I'm very sure that this membership will help you get into a program. LML33.

If you are going to join, I recommend that you do it now at the baccalaureate level. The GPA requirement is a little tougher at the master's level.

When do the invitations come out. We will be starting our last semester in Jan. I have heard they come out then. Is this true? Does it differ from school to school. No one has been invited, yet, where I am.
