Sierra College Fall 2011 Nursing program

U.S.A. California

Hi everyone!

I'm just wondering if anyone is going to Sierra College this Fall 2011? I posted a while back, before I got my acceptance letter, and didn't get any response. I hope to "meet" some of you before school starts! :-)

Hi tstic364, I am going to Sierra this fall for nursing:) I am so excited! My name is Stephanie and I am in the process of studying for the TEAS. Have you taken the TEAS before? This will be my first time taking the test. I would love to meet you. What group did you get into? I am in group A. Hope to talk to you soon.

Hi Stephanie! I'm so glad someone responded! I'm Theresa.... I am a stay at home mom to three little kids... Was this your first time applying to the program? I am studying like crazy for the TEAS test as well... I have never taken one before and I am super nervous about it! I am in group B, but honestly, I think it would be better to be in group A so I could just get the test over with first thing in the morning! Do you have any study tips? Do you know anyone else coming into the program?

Hi Theresa, I am a stay at home mom too:) My kids are big, my son is 16 and my daughter is 13. This is my second time applying to Sierra and my 3rd to ARC & SCC. Did you get in your first time applying? Where did you take your pre-reqs? I took all of mine at Sierra. I am so stressed about the TEAS:( This will be my first time taking it. Do you want to get together sometime to study?

Hi Stephanie... I would love to get together and study after I study a little more myself. I am more of an independent studier until I get my facts down. :-) I just took an online test from ATI yesterday and scored a 66%.... needless to say I am stressing now! I thought I was totally prepared, but I am obviously not.

Anyhow, I took my pre-reqs at Folsom Lake College and American River. I applied to SCC and ARC twice, and this was my first time applying to Sierra. I was SOOOOOOOO excited when I got the e-mail! I have to admit that I am nervous about going to school for so many hours with kids, but I am sure that after time I (we!) will adjust. Oh, my kids are 8, 4, 4. :-) Hard to get much studying done before 8pm with them running around! LOL

Did you buy the ATI guide to start studying? If not, I would recommend that to start with. I am also looking though all my old notes from anatomy/physiology, Chemistry, and microbiology, which is helping to jog my memory. So far I have having the hardest time with the English sections... verbs, adverbs, pronouns, simple sentences, clauses?!?!!? Yikes!

Theresa,

I have the ATI study guide. I am having the hardest time with the English too. I took Chem a while back, so I had to go through my notes to jog my memory. I read a thread on here that the ATI online A & B tests are harder than the TEAS so don't get discouraged. Do you have any suggestions for studying Earth Science? I have not taken an earth science class so I need to work on that subject too. Anyway I am so happy for you, Congrats.

Hi Stephanie... I'm glad to hear that the onlone tests are harder! They were really tough... I've been going back through some of the info. that I missed and I think that will help. I don't have any suggestions for studying earth science, but I did find this information regarding that portion.

Earth and Physical Science

The Sun

Kinetic, Potential, and Other Energies

Measurable Portions of Atoms

Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons

Purpose of Catalysts

Physical and Chemical Patterns Within the periodic Table

Enzymes

Acid and Base Solutions

Chemical Bonds Between Atoms in Common Molecules

Chemical Bonds Resulting from Sharing or Transferring Electrons

Important Chemical Reactions: Balancing and Identifying

Chemical Properties of Water

Atoms or Molecules in Liquids, Gases, and Solids

Evaporation, Vaporization, and Condensation

Of course this information includes physical science as well.... hope that helps!

Hi Theresa,

Thanks for the help with the sciences. Sorry I haven't replied sooner, I have been so busy studying and my kids just got out of school for the summer.

I have been using the OWL website to help with the English and grammar because I am having trouble in that area too. I took practice test A and got a 76%; however, it took me 3 hours to complete the test.:crying2: It helped me see that I still have a lot to study.

How is your studying going? I am looking forward to meeting you on the 20th.:)

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie!

Glad to hear you are able to get a lot of studying in! 76% on the practice test is great! :-) I also took another practice test the other day and got a 73%.... a little too close to the cut off for me!

What is the web address of OWL? I could use all the help I can get! I'm still having a hard time with the science section. I've been concentrating on chemistry and some of the basic concepts of anatomy/physiology that I should know but am weak at. Like what organ has endocrine and exocrine functions, or proteins are digested where...

My girls also got out of school yesterday! We have been busy with end of year parties and the chaos that goes along with it. (I'm certain i don't need to tell you about that though!) To add to our chaos, we had to put our 11 year old dog down yesterday. :-( Hopefully this week we will both be able to study a lot! I don't know about you, but I am so nervous about this test! I'm so scared I won't pass... then what?

I'm looking forward to meeting you too. :-) Only 10 more days! Yikes!

theresa,

i am so sorry to hear about your dog:crying2: losing a pet is so hard, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

here is the link to owl at purdue

this will take you to the site map and then just click on what you need help with. i am also having trouble with chemistry. i took chem a while ago and now i am trying to go back and remember everything. i found another good website that has been helpful for math and science.

http://www.khanacademy.org/

i am so stressed about this test too. i am so worried i won't pass. hang in there and let me know if you find the websites useful.

stephanie

Thank you for the links Stephanie. I've been using the khanacademy one too. :-) I'll check out the OWL one now.

When do you think you will take your next practice test?

Thanks Stephanie and Theresa. Actually I'm a reading this site for daughter and she is going to sierra currently. She still has to finish chem2b and Physiology. Do you mind telling the GPA and any idea the cut off point for sierra college?

She had to re-take microbio and got C. Her non-science gpa is A's & B's, mostly A's. She is taking anatomy currently.

Please help me giving any tip? I'm just wondering how did you not get accepted at scc and arc? Isn't sierra hard to get in?
