SHSU Spring 2018

Published

Hiii, I saw there wasn't a page for this yet. SO I decided to start one. Anyone submit their app yet? I just got accepted to SHSU and applied to the Woodlands campus. :)

I don't think I'm able to apply for SHSU. I'm barely getting my tigers done tomorrow and I'm pretty sure my antibody count isn't high enough. í ½í¸ž

oh man! I dont like that immunizations can stop someone from applying. I almost wasnt able to either because I didnt realize you needed the Varicella vaccine if you didnt have a positive titier but thankfully I was. Good luck with your lab results!

I got my titers done today! and thanks @Nurse2bkd00!!

I got my results for my titers back... I am a little low on the Varicella... Did anyone else have this issue?

Also, did everyone send in their immunizations email yet?

Yes, I had the same problem with HepB. It is suggested that you get a booster shot if you have completed the series, then go in a month after receiving the booster shot for another titer. It is required to wait a month after the booster so that the results read for the antibodies in your immune system instead of the ones from the booster shot.

Also remember that if your levels are above 9.9 then you are considered immune. @hop3fulnurse

In that case I am immune to everything except Varicella. Does that mean I have to get blood work done a month after I get the vaccination :(

Yes, that would be what you would have to do. Though I would still submit the shots and titers that you have had and try to complete you application as planned.

This bums me out. Ok thank you!! I'll get my shot this week and send what I have.

And I don't think you need a need a titer for Varicella. You only must have 2 doses of the shot for Varicella, but you do need a titer for the HepB.

Ok, I'm up to date on all my shots I'm just low on the Varicella... I'm going to call them today to clarify!

I called Ms. Sharp and I was told that as long as I have my shot record indicating that I've had the 2 doses from my childhood I'm fine. I don't even need to get a new dose because it's rare for me to contract that unless I'm working with children but if I wanted to I could. The only thing they're serious about is HBV.
