Should I be worried??

Published

I just completed Pharmacology, Nursing Fundamentals, and Health Calculations. Before starting nursing school, I would always hear how hard it is. I am in an ADN program and the classes are 7 weeks. I have juggled three classes, work, and still had a social life. Am I not studying enough? Are the easier classes in the first semester? I just don't feel as stressed as some of my classmates. My final grade in fundamentals was a B. I am not big on studying. I find it easier to listen to lectures and take notes. So I review my notes/power points and skim through the chapter. To be 100% honest, I have not read an entire chapter yet.... is that a bad thing?

I don't understand what exactly you are asking. If you are getting good grades in your classes then why would you be worried? Everybody learns different ways and some people pick up concepts easier then others. This seems like more of a brag post disguised as a question. If you want to say that you barely study and get good grades, then just do so. It doesn't make you a bad person to be proud that you do well without having to work as hard as other do. Youre just lucky that you retain information really well so that you don't have to stress over studying as much as others.

It gets harder. However, you also need to figure in how difficult your school is. Some schools require a lot more work than others. Some schools make it harder for people to graduate to keep their pass rate high. My school fails a lot of students or makes them repeat semesters whereas a BSN program is a lot easier and requires less work out of their students. My school, the ADN program, has a higher pass rate on the NCLEX because of the amount of work involved.

Also not all teachers are equal. Some are harder and some are easier.

To add on to what the two previous posts said...everyone is different. Some people are completely comfortable not giving nursing school much effort. I am not one of those people. I have to give it 110% and still struggle at times. Some people are also fast learners, which seems like that is what you are. I on the other hand have to read (entire chapters) and repeat the information. So maybe just be grateful that you don't have to put much effort into it but please don't put down the fact that others students lives have been consumed by the program just because it's easier for you.

I dont think BSN programs make it easier, I know my program is really hard and a lot of people have been failing. Were on med surg now and its not easy, fundamentals is definitely easier.

To the OP, I am glad that you dont have to study hard for your classes, I guess if you did you would get A's instead of B's but thats good. Keep doing what you're doing until it no longer works. Good luck with everything!!!!

That depends; what are your grades like, normally, in other classes? Have you always been a 4.0 GPA without really trying kind of student? If not, then I might get somewhat worried because you maybe stuck with an easy Nursing School. Check it's accreditation and look at other programs if it is not accredited properly. Nursing School is supposed to be hard because being a Nurse that is worth a damn is hard. If your Nursing School is easy, they are doing you a disservice by taking your money while putting you under the impression that everything will work out fine once you get in the field. Worse yet, they are doing your potential patients a disservice, and they are the whole reason Nursing exists.

Alternately, you could just be really bright. If you are finding this easy because you are smart then good for you! We need smart people for this career; I hope you go far in it. If that is the case you might consider getting a Masters Degree in it becoming Nurse Practitioner or the like.

I was the same way in the beginning. I never read or studied and am very good at retaining information from lecture and note taking. I get nothing from reading a book. It did get a little more difficult in the end when our teacher stopped lecturing and it went more to self study and nclex review... I had no other choice but to read the chapters which I hate because i retained nothing. I found myself watching tons of youtube videos to backup what I was reading.

Thank you anyway

@pnkgirl25

This sounds just like me. I watch youtube videos for a lot my skills. I just wanted to make sure I was on the right path, or if I needed to retrain my way of learning.

Thank you

Thank you for your replies.

Thank you. I did not mean to put down the fact that other students lives have been consumed. I just wonder if there is something that I am doing wrong. Every minute that I am not studying, I wonder if I SHOULD be. I wanted to know if the classes got harder after fundamentals. I want to prepare myself now, if my future courses require me to challenge myself more. I have nothing but respect for ALL nurses and ALL nursing students. Its a big sacrifice. I look at the mothers in my program and I get tired of just thinking of how they can manage nursing school, a family, and work at the same time.

I fail to see how I ridiculed you. My opinion was not based on your title, but the content. If you feel ridiculed then that is on you and not me. I stated this seemed more like a brag post because that is my OPINION. If it wasn't and you are truly worried about your easy time getting good grades, I also stated " It doesn't make you a bad person to be proud that you do well without having to work as hard as other do. Youre just lucky that you retain information really well so that you don't have to stress over studying as much as others. "

As in, good for you. That's awesome that you retain information in a way that makes classes easier. I would like an explanation of how that was meant to ridicule you.
