Should I take the NCLEX in FL and get license in AL

Published

I live in Alabama when I am not in school in Florida. Graduation is in May and it would be convenient to take the NCLEX here in Florida. Does it matter that I will be practicing in Alabama? Are the two in any way connected?

If you take the NCLEX in Florida and pass, you will be licensed to practice in Florida. Endorsing your license to Alabama could take several months which means that during the time you are waiting for Alabama to issue you a license, you can't work as an RN in Alabama. If you can afford to wait, OK. Otherwise, I would just go online to the Alabama Board of Nursing and apply to take your NCLEX exam with the Alabama board of nursing to save a lot of lost time. They will have the directions there that you need to follow as well as the application that needs to be filled out as a new grad. You can link into their website from allnurses. Click on the "Links" tab at the top left of the page. Click on "Boards of Nursing" and then click "Alabama". The link to that state board of Nursing will come up for you.
