Should I take Micro and Anatomy and Physiology in the same semester?

Published

Hello! My Community College offers Anatomy and Physiology in a sequence of two semesters (2A- deals with cells, histology, bones, muscular, eye, ear) (2B-deals with cardiovascular, digestive, respritory, nervous, ect) I have already taken the Pre-reqs for Microbiology which were a sememster of Chemistry and a biology class. I am currently debating whether to take A&P 2A with Micro or A&P 2B with Micro? Both classes require 2.5 hrs of lecture and 4 hrs of lab twice a week. Should I take plan A or plan B? Advice appericated thanks! (:

--PLAN A--

Fall:

Amy 2A w/LAB

Micro 1 w/LAB

Nutrition(online fairly easy)

CIS 1A(online fairly easy)

Winter:

Political Science(online)

Spring:

Amy 2B w/LAB

Psy 9

Health Science(satifies A.S requirments fairly easy)

ORR--PLAN B--

Fall:

Amy 2A w/LAB

Health Science

CIS 1A(online)

Political Science(online)

Winter:

Nutrition(online)

Spring:

Amy 2B w/LAB

Microbiology w/LAB

Psy 9

I would take it with the second A&P so you have a little more bio under your belt. Also because you would hve already learned how to study for A&P. I know a lot of people hve a hard time with that class bc they have to study differently

I took A&P2 and Micro in the same semester and got straight A's but it was time consuming. You may want to just take A&P alone so that you familiarize yourself with time consuming science classes

Can you take them at different semesters completely?

Hello thanks for the advice :) I am already starting to read some of A&P 1 textbook, to familirize myself. I think I willl be taking 2B and Micro along with Psy 9, as I will already know how my instructor for anatomy will be.

At EMT 89: I could do that, but I would have to wait an extra semester to apply for the program, because they want us to finish all of our pre reqs before applying. I would rather have them done in the same semester so that by Fall 2013, I can apply for Spring 2014 entrance :-)

I have to take AP1, AP2, Microbiology and Chemistry before applying to a nursing program for July 2013. Does anyone recommend which classes to take together? Two semesters, 4 classes total (pre-reqs) let me know!

1st semester:

Micro and A&P1

2nd semester:

Chem and A&P2

because A&P1 is a time consuming class that most people have to get used to putting in the amount of time necessary to do well and microbiology is much easier than chemistry. By the time you get to A&P2 you should be able to better handle the workload and can handle adding chem that semester!

I'm going through the same dilemma. I want to be able to take APII & micro in the fall along with nutrition.I'm having a really hard time at the moment taking AP I in the summer, so I'm going to wait and see how I do to make the final decision.

My professor is not very good though, so that's my problem.. I just had my first test and I will be changing my study habits. I read the book and make flash cards of everything as I go. I was previously recording the professor's lecture and it wasn't working for me because of his teaching nothing would stick, it just didn't work for me. I'm doing much better so far with the flash cards.

I spread all of my sciences out so that I could spend a lot of time on them, as they are time consuming. Try to take them separately if you can.

I took A&P II with Organic Chemistry, Medical Terminology and Sociology. Med Term and Soc were very easy and required little time so I was able to devote most of my time to Orgo and A&P II. I will say thought that I let my A&PII grade slip a little. Two reasons: I was already accepted to NS and knew I only needed a C to transfer  and I enjoyed Orgo a lot more so I dedicated more of my time to it.

my school actually prohibits taking micro and ap at the same time, due to the failure rate even when classes are taken individually. I was able to talk my way into getting both at the same time, and I ended up with a 4.0 for 14 semester hours (I took sociology and nutrition online so that helped).

was it hard? that's totally dependent on the person. individually for each class we did have a 75% drop rate for ap and 50% for micro if that gives you an idea how "hard" it is. if you are going to take both, my advice is to forget about a social life and prepare to study during all of your time away from class. there was some overlap on the 2 classes, but eventually you will branch off and end up with 2 completely different sets of biology material. it's a lot to remember, and adding the labs in just makes it even more interesting.

by the way, don't take ap2 and algebra at the same time, they are like trying to mix oil and water...THAT was hard, well at least for me.

A&P and Micro take too much time to take them in the same semester. I spread mine out and was very glad I did. I do suggest taking micro before starting nursing school.
