Should I take the job?

I was offered a RN job today at a LTC facility starting off at 19.25/hour. Does this seem a little low. The job does also offer full benifits. I live in eastern washington and the pay for nurses starting here in the hospital is 21-22 an hour. This is the only facility that has called me back and offered me a job right on the spot. I would like anyones opinion. Thanks. Also the job market around here is pretty crummy. we have 3 different nursing schools here so the pickins are slim plus it seems all of the hospitals want 1-2 years experience. Plus would this count as experience to work in a hospital. My dream is to be a L&D nurse but they want 1-2 years experience also. what to do what to do.:confused:

I went for my orientation today. The facility that I am working at has been completely remodeled. Its a very nice facility. I am actually looking forward to working here. I was hired on as a RN supervisor. Not bad for a new graduate nurse with an adn. Everyone I met there were very nice and welcoming. Its more of a rehabilitation facility than a nursing home. So maybe I will get to use alot of the skilles that I learned. You even punch into the time clock using your finger print. Pretty fancy!!:p

I work in NC at a LTC as a LPN and that is what I started out at. So, yes, that is low - especially for a LTC facility.

That is what RN start out at in MN as well. $19.56... I have worked in LTC as an RN for 2 years. LTC has change a lot in the last years. you will get lots of experince.

This may be a dumb question, but when they offered the job to you, did you tell them you need time to think about it, or did they just assume you needed to think about it. I always wondered we are all applying for some many jobs at once so what happens if you interview for 2 jobs, got called and offered another. Do you say u need time to think? Im confused sorry!

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking...if you are interviewing for two jobs and get the first one but want to see if you also get the second, you can tell the first job you need time to review everything before you decide to accept it. You don't need to explain why. Then that will give you a little waiting time to see if you get the second job offer--if you don't, you can take the first job. If you do, you can choose which one you want more.

However, the people who offered you a job want your answer fairly quickly, so this may only buy you a few days' time at most. When you get a job offer, they usually give you a specific date for you to accept/decline. When that date comes, you will have to tell them Yes or No, regardless if you've heard back from the second job. So you do take a chance that you could end up with no job at all if you turn down the first offer, then afterwards are rejected from the second.

I finally got activated!!!!! I am now officially an RN!!! I took the job and can't wait to start. They were really nice waiting for me to get activated. (DOH lost my transcripts that were sent in july) but anywho Thanks for all the words of wisdom and advice. I really think that I'm going to enjoy working there!!!:nurse:

I'm in the same boat...would LOVE L&D but was offered med-surg. I would love to take it but I can't work nights because I have small kids and a military husband. Don't know what I would do with them at night if he's gone. I had a question too....when I interviewed with them I told them part time either days or evenings (3-11P) and they offered me fulltime nights (7p-7a) do you think that's rude? I would like a job but not at the expense of my family. So I told the nurse recruiter I would be willing to work the evening shift and reminded her that I said that during my interview. She went on to ask if I would work 6 weeks of days and then 6 weeks of nights....that really doesn't help my situation. I know they need nurses and I would like the experience but I am at a lose about how to handle this in a way that both the employer and I get a fair shake. How would you handle this situation? By the way, the hospital has several part time, day/evening jobs open.

I would put money on it being the fact that you're a new nurse. Typically orientations are full-time; that's why they typically don't hire new grads on part-time positions. :clown: Least that's my understanding of what I've seen from my own area.
