I am extremely depressed. My whole family are nurses mother and all my aunts. They kept on telling me nursing is the only way to make money quick. So I enrolled in nursing school but I didnt pass the practicum and failed med surg II. I was going to a school where a class is 5,000 and I had a loan but since I failed I would have had to pay out of pocket and also to retake the class I would have to go a different campus that was a really far place. So I left the program and went to school to get an english degree because I am passionate about writing and magazines. I want to be a magazine editor. Unfortunately the writing market is going down and I am kicking myself for leaving nursing. I was only one semester to go. I can't think of a job that makes as much as a nurse. Does anyone have an idea for a non medical job that is high entry level and not too much schooling?
I think that's a bit much and a little unfair. Everyone was young before. I'm sure no one has mocked you when you asked for advice from potential mentors about life decisions. No one is born rich or knowing how their life will plan out. She is 22. I'm sure you are much older. Everyone deserves a chance and respectful advice and constructive criticism. I don't know if yours is constructive or just plain mean. You didn't have to respond. Especially so personal when I didn't see any reason for your response being the way it was.
You could've sent the same message in different wording and it wouldn't have sounded so harsh
I could have.
In fact, I did send the same message with different wording first, yet you chose to quote my response to her response to me.
What you call mean, I call straight shooting. Whatev. You have no idea the restraint it took to NOT be the first one to bring up stripping. I was pretty proud of myself
The world's richest men and women aren't nurses. So, definitely, nursing is not the only way to make money.
My husband earns the same as nurses do but he is in the IT industry. IT is a likewise progressive profession especially that most companies are relying on technology such as software, internet, and now, mobile.
Check out this list by CNN Money. It features the 20 highest-paying jobs. They also have other lists such as most satisfying jobs, etc.
I have been through the same thing. I thought I hated nursing but I realize now that I only disliked parts of nursing or the people around me when I was studying.
Until now, I still have a wide range of interest. At first, those interests confused me if nursing is really for me. But now, I view them more as assets to explore more specialties of nursing.
For example: an interest in Law? -- there's Legal Practice Nurse ; an interest in Computers? -- there's Nurse Informatics; an interest in Journalism? -- you can be a Health Journalist or a Hospital Communications Professional.
As the other posts say, all of these have something in common -- determination and commitment to be the best. If you're the best, hence, you earn and are paid more.

Like I said if her post bothered you that much! You didn't have to reply

Sweetheart every one was young and dumb before. Not calling you dumb. But I think the stripper postings are just mean. You can work a regular job to make money until you do find out what it is you want to do. I am CERTAIN there are many more who do it for the money who can care less about the patients or anything else( they won't say it tho) and a few just may be on this forum
