Hi everyone!

I will be finishing up my pre-reqs in this fall. I am taking A&PI, Developmental Psy, and Intro to Mathematics.

I am considering adding Nutrition to my schedule but I what to know what to expect. Being someone that hasn't taken it I assume that is a pretty easy class. So can you tell me if my assumption is correct?

Thanks!

Kimberly

Depends on your school curriculum, so you need to ask someone who has taken it at YOUR school. My school that I am currently attending required it and it was basically what you would think of when contemplating a nutrition class, i.e. vitamin/mineral contents, fats, carbs, protiens, BMI, etc. Honestly, it was a pretty easy class as I was familiar with all the concepts. However, this is why I caution you to ask someone at YOUR school about how they teach it there. My girlfriend (friend) who attends NS in another state, took a nutrition class that broke everything down to the organic chemistry level, and she said it was one of the hardest classes she took prior to NS. Just letting you know how varied the "hardness" of a particular class can be depending on the school you are attending. Good luck in all that you do.

The nutrition class I took in college was really easy for me, but thats because there were a lot of repeats from biology, anatomy and physiology, and chemistry. For those that didn't have that background the class was VERY hard.

Do you need to take nutrition or do you plan on just adding it on for a sparkle in your application? Also take into consideration that A&P will take up a lot of your study time.

I was planning to take nutrition and made a comment to a friend about my light load. Her reply was, "I took it and it was a lot harder than you think it would be." I ended up foregoing the class because it wasn't required for the program into which I was hoping to enroll.

Have you studied any biochemistry, physio, human biology, or microbiology? If you've already seen some of the stuff I'd expect it to be not so bad. If not, you might proceed cautiously.

How do you feel about your other classes? How much more work can you manage?

Thanks for the info!! I think I am going to forget about Nutrition for now and just focus on the other 3 classes.

Casi- the reason I was thinking about taking Nutrition is because it is required for the RN-BSN program I am planning to do after my ADN.

Beggar - The only sciences outside of high school that I have had is Chem which I did really well in.

I think you're wise. With no other science background, A&P will be a handful in itself. Math is also one of those classes in which some have to spend a lot of time to get by.

Since you don't need it right now, you're smart not to gamble your grades on it.

Good luck to you.

Depends on your study habits and other responsibilities, such as working fulltime, kids etc. If you live home with mom with no bills to pay, then you probably can take the extra load. Remember, for every 3-credits, you have to study for 15 hours a week at least.

Also if you want to get good grades, the less classes you take the better your chances to do well.

I hope I was helpful. Good luck to you.

Esther - I don't work outside the home but I do have three little ones that keep me extreamly busy:)

My plate is already overflowing so I know that I need to stay away from Nutrition for now! I just thought that if there wasn't really anything to it I could get it out of the way now.

Thanks all!

RN2Bemommyof3, good for you going to school while having 3 small children! I went back to school when I had a 5 month old (and breastfeeding!) and a 2 year old. 5.gif

I agree with what some of the others said about Nutrition being more challenging than you think. However, once you have some A&P under your belt, it should be alot easier. Alot of schools also offer Nutrition online. That's how I did mine and it was GREAT to log in anytime day or night. Sometimes the baby would wake up, and I'd be working on an online assignment with him sitting in my lap. I ended up getting a 4.0!

Good luck with the new classes! 5.gif

I was going to take nutrition but it's not needed so I'm not. I want to dedicate as much of my time as possible to the required classes so I can get the highest grades possible

I just finished nutrition online and it was very, very easy. Got a 95 w/ minimal effort. I think it is doable!

Nutrition is not required as a pre-req, nor is it listed as a required course for the RN program I am aiming for...should I take it regardless?
