Shoreline Fall 2020

Published

Hello! I am currently applying to schools in Washington and I was wondering if anyone else on here is applying for the RN program at Shoreline. If you are, what are your points and what other schools are you applying to?

@AlissaTaylor13 that sounds really stressful! I'm so nervous.. Is there anyone in your class didn't get 75% and what happened to them if you don't mind sharing? ?

There are quite a few people who have received less than 75% on an exam! You just need to meet with your instructor and review the questions. Sometimes they'll have you come up with a plan for studying for the next module so that you can do better, just depends on the instructor. Then you have to work extra hard to keep your cumulative testing points above 75% for the quarter to move on! We have only lost one from our original cohort so far, but it had nothing to do with testing points. He is now in the cohort right behind us, so it seems like they try to make space for us to continue with the program!

@keehg I hope we’re in the same lab classes! I’ll also see you this fall AND in orientation!

@AlissaTaylor13 thank you for the information! I’m going to assume first quarter may be tough on me as well because psychology and sociology wasn’t my strong suit when I took it. Good luck on the rest of the quarter and program! Judging on how helpful you’ve been in this discussion board, you’ll make an amazing nurse!

Thank you so much and good luck to you as well! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. I will be at the registration meeting on June 2nd for a little bit as well since I am part of the nursing student club at Shoreline, so I will see you there!

@AlissaTaylor13 that's really reassuring to hear! I'd been to a CNA training at a different college where they tried to fail us because they didn't have enough spots at hospital for clinical rotation. So, hearing Shoreline program wants us to succeed does make me feel better in that way. I can tell they care about our education and make effort to help us with our journey :)

Interesting that we still haven't heard about the registration meeting on June 2 and it's almost Friday now...

Can't be more grateful to have you share your experience, Alissa! You're the best! Good luck on your 3rd quarter of Nursing! And see you soon!

@S0255214 YAS I'll see you soon on our first quarter of ADN! So excited! Also, I sent an email to ask about orientation but haven't gotten anything back....

I forgot to ask about orientation ? but I was told they did get my form, thank goodness! And since Alissa said they sent out more acceptance letters on Tuesday, they’ll probably give them until tomorrow to turn in the forms, so we’ll most likely get information about orientation tomorrow evening or Monday the latest.

@AlissaTaylor13 Hi Alissa! I wanted to ask what the class schedule was like for you during Winter quarter? Because there’s a good chance I might have to be out of state for at least two days for something important, but I also really don’t want to miss any labs or clinicals, either. Thank you in advance!

So sorry I just saw this! For second quarter, we had theory Monday 8:30am-10:50am then Tuesday 2:30pm-4:50pm. We also had skills lab every other Tuesday from 7am-10am or 10:30am-1:30pm depending on which group we were in. I had clinicals Wednesday from 11am-2pm and Thursday 6:30am-3:30pm, but the other half of the cohort went for a short day Thursday and then the longer day Friday. Just depends on which hospital you're at!

Hi @AlissaTaylor13, I'm here hoping I could figure out how was the Finals for your first quarter like? I have my best friends' wedding that happening right at the last day of class in Fall, then I am thinking I might ask if the exams could be taken remotely from the 13th-16th... Since we have a skill lab, that means we have a skill test as well right? I deeply appreciate for your insights!

Hey! First quarter finals were probably the toughest finals I have taken since there are two theory courses, so there are two cumulative finals to study for. There is no test for skills lab! Sometimes they will do check off testing for skills like medication administration and injections or there will be online quizzes (usually less than 10 questions), but there aren't any sort of big tests or finals for skills. You just need the 75% overall from worksheets and quizzes to get a pass for skills. The instructors will set a time and date for finals, but mine were the Tuesday and Wednesday of finals week for fall quarter.

Hi @AlissaTaylor13! I know this is an older thread, but I am planning to apply to SCC's RN program and was wondering how you like the program so far? Are theory classes continuing to be online and the skills/labs in-person? Are clinicals around the city or do you have to drive far-- I don't have a car and am wondering if I'd be able to manage. Also, how many points minimum do you recommend having to get into the Spring entry? Thanks so much!

So far I am liking the program! Just be prepared for the "flipped classroom" model (I was definitely not since we did not do this where I did my prerequisites). Theory classes have switched to a hybrid format now, so some content is online, but tests and other content are in-person. Skills lab and clinicals are still in-person as well. For clinicals, you usually get a list of four clinical sites and you rank them from your first to last choice, then they try to get you into your top choice, so most people get clinicals that are decently located. Some of the previous clinical sites have been Providence in Everett, UW Northwest, Swedish Edmonds, Swedish First Hill, and Virginia Mason in Seattle. If you let them know about transportation needs in your site request form, they tend to be flexible and try to get you where you need to be. As far as points go, I am unsure. They have a new point system now, so I know it is a little harder to get points. Spring tends to require fewer points than Fall as well, but I am thinking it is still upwards of 100.
