  1. Hi, I applied. Your points look good! If they take my volunteering hours into account I'll be in the mid 100s, otherwise in the 90s and I won't stand much of a chance. Keeping my fingers crossed for both of us, good luck! Guessing we'll know if we got in around the last week of Feb?
  2. Thank you for sharing your experience. I too have had a stutter since I was little. I went into the fine arts partly because I love to paint, draw, etc but also because it felt "safe" because it appeared to be a profession in which verbal communication wasn't crucial to succeed. With the courage and perspective from growing older, I'm finally making a career change to pursue nursing. ?
  3. Hi @AlissaTaylor13! I know this is an older thread, but I am planning to apply to SCC's RN program and was wondering how you like the program so far? Are theory classes continuing to be online and the skills/labs in-person? Are clinicals around the city or do you have to drive far-- I don't have a car and am wondering if I'd be able to manage. Also, how many points minimum do you recommend having to get into the Spring entry? Thanks so much!
  4. I'd also like to chime in and thank @Medic2RN72 for this info! Am I right in thinking that research nurse roles typically follow 8hr/day 5 days a week schedule--no weekends/holidays unlike a hospital schedule (3 12's or 4 10s's etc) and the pay is usually less than floor nursing?
  5. Thank you so much for sharing this! Do you happen to know if a BSN is enough for working in research? Or do they prefer an MSN? Also, what is the salary like?
  6. The ADN programs I am applying to have deadlines in January. The requirements I am yet to complete are 1 prerequisite, CNA training and ~200 hrs of healthcare experience. The CNA course I am enrolled in will start in late Sept. and end in the beginning of November. The state CNA license exam will be on Nov 19th.. does anyone in WA state know how soon after taking the exam we can expect to get the license? My goal is to start working as a CNA ASAP so I can get some healthcare experience hours which I completely lack (I am a career changing coming from an art background with 0 healthcare experience). I hear I can apply for a temporary NAR after completing the CNA training, get a CNA job and start working- does anyone know if we can receive the NAR soon after applying for it? Or is there a wait? Also- from looking through the doh website, I understand I cannot apply for the NAR before completing the CNA training but wait till after I do the AIDS training that's part of the CNA program I'm enrolled in ? Thank you for your help in advance!
  7. Just wanted to loop back and say I scored in the 99th percentile on the PAX. Thanks to all your helpful suggestions ?
  8. Hi everyone, I understand that UW has waived the hands-on healthcare experience requirement, however, do you think I stand a chance of getting in with a 4.0 in all prerequisites but ZERO healthcare experience? I have non-medical, non-science degrees and have worked various jobs and have quite a bit of "life experience" to draw on, but I get the feeling that they really look for some sort of healthcare experience in their applicants?
  9. Thank you for this detailed and helpful post! Do you think the vocab in the red book is what we're tested on, or are we tested on words other than those as well? Also, curious if anyone else noticed quite a few errors in the red book?
