Shoreline CC Winter 2018

Published

Hi everyone who is applying for winter quarter at SCC! Thought I'd connect with you while we anxiously wait for our results in mid November. This is my second time applying and so I'm really hoping I make it this time (before I had a score of 102.5, now it should be 104.7). From what I understand, I am cutting it close to the previous quarter cut offs so we will see. Good luck to everyone else who is applying!

If yoy wrote a clear and convincing reason for why the classes should be accepted then they will count. They are more interested in you having a broad base of experience and in your ability to tie it in to Nursing.

For example I'm sure that taking a class about traditional African music styles would count if you could briefly explain how such a class enriches and expands your cultural understanding and appreciation of human diversity. No kidding, that sort of thing WILL come up in your classes.

The instructions are intentionally vague in order to encourage you to think very broadly and then apply your knowledge narrowly to the nursing field. You'll be doing that a lot in the program. :)

Good luck to everyone. We look forward to seeing all of you at SCC! It really is a wonderful program.

Seriously, good luck to everyone I am rooting for us all!! Can't wait to hear back, but will ;) 4-6 more weeks until we hear the news. Good luck everyone!!

4-6 weeks!!? We are 3 weeks in now...I interpreted it as we will know by 4-6 weeks after the deadline, which would mean we should know by/around 11/14. That would put us at 6 weeks. Anyways, guess we will just know when we know:) regardless, it's hard to wait in anticipation!

The earliest we would know would be November 3rd, but based on previous forums and the fact that they are renewing their accreditation right now, I'm guessing it will be sometime between November 15th and 20th!

Nooooooo!!!! Lol I forgot about that part! This stress is causing me to look at other schools, even though Shoreline is my #1. However, after talking with nurses at Children's (which is where I work,) I feel discouraged for some crazy reason for going to Community College. I haven't met one nurse yet that attended CC:( is that frowned upon? What I learned is that most hospitals have a higher percentage of grads with BSN's. Which is what I plan on obtaining after, but why am I being discouraged by nurses to apply to schools other than CC?

I work at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland and I've met quite a few nurses here that graduated from Shoreline CC. I do think most hospitals are starting to want you to have your VAN. We have a RN residency program that requires you to obtain your bachelor's within 5 years of getting hired. The nurses from Shoreline said they just got theirs from WGU and that it's way cheaper that way.

You are probably right, I was thinking 6-8 weeks. I expect sometime around the 16th of November is when we will hear back. Sorry! Hopin for the best expecting the worst when it comes to the wait. I hope the time goes by quickly.

Hello,

Thank you for keeping the board active.

Now let me tell you something, there is a projected growth of over 20% over the next couple of years, the healthcare industry is already understaffed, and the demand for healthcare has never been that high in years of history since the implementation of "Universal Healthcare"(THIS IS NOT AN ATTEMPT TO POINT OUT THE EFFORTS OF our dear President IN REPLACING OBAMACARE).

Long story short, even with a RN you will still find employment. Most hospitals offer conditional employment upon grounds that you will obtain your BSN within 5 years of employment (which is more than reasonable).

A BSN shows commitment and gives one leadership skills which will be beneficial in your role as a nurse. Nurses are having more and more of a leadership role on the floor as an extension of the doctor's arms, eyes, and ears. You as a Nurse will oversee the treatment plans and offer you valuable input to the Doctor,s. You have a word to say in this.

Finally a BSN is not a measure of success, one could still have all the degrees in the world but still be unsuccessful.

Educational institutions provide you with the knowledge but the defining factor in terms of success, resides in one's ability to apply that knowledge. This my dear, is something which is not taught in schools, a.k.a the grind; the hustle.

I would recommend: " The five minute rule", "Outwitting the devil", "How to make friends and influence people", "THe art of not giving a f****"

My educational bonus classes are Intro to LGBTQ studies and nutrition. When I applied last time I wrote about how they will prepare me and I got the points.

It hit me today that we will know in about 3 weeks. Ahhh! I'm so nervous!

Hello everyone, just a a few more weeks or days of wait left waiting.

I am literally checking the mail everyday í ½í¸°.

Let's keep each other posted.

The anticipation is almost killing me!!! My fingers and toes are crossed!

Even though I have gone through every thread as far back as I can, I go back and forth between feeling super confident to thinking I have no chance!
