Shoreline CC Winter 2018

Published

Hi everyone who is applying for winter quarter at SCC! Thought I'd connect with you while we anxiously wait for our results in mid November. This is my second time applying and so I'm really hoping I make it this time (before I had a score of 102.5, now it should be 104.7). From what I understand, I am cutting it close to the previous quarter cut offs so we will see. Good luck to everyone else who is applying!

I think you should apply. I understand that it can be hard getting a rejection letter, and honestly I would be anxious if I did. In the big picture, though, applying now is only a positive; think of it like a freebie with the added bonus of getting familiar with the process and getting your paperwork on file.

If you do get in then all the better! There is a woman in the upcoming Fall class (that posts on this forum, actually) that applied earlier with a lower point total and was on the alternate list. She didn't get in, but she was obviously close. You just never know unless you try. :)

I'm doing it!!! I passed the Accuplacer :) Such a relief! Going to see if I can manage to get all my documents together in time! My only concern is that my volunteer site didn't enter the correct amount of hours and I have yet to hear back from them. Kind of worried!

Is this everyone's first round of applying?

Yes!! You are right! Worse case, I have my application ready for spring and an additional 3 points:) thank you!!!

Well, almost have everything together to submit! Wondering where everyone else is with applying? Trying not to get my hopes up, but going in winter quarter with 102.9 points. Fingers crossed! I am so ready! Having gained some experience at Children's, I am feeling pretty prepared. However, Spring quarter I will have 3 more points from working as a CNA.

Anyone have any thoughts with how the number of applicants fluctuates from one application period to the next? From my understanding Winter quarter usually has the least amount.

No idea on the number of applicants per quarter. Just remember that this application is your "freebie", getting your paperwork in early for Spring, and you'll be fine.

If you get in for Winter that will be wonderful, but 105.9 points in Spring should be more than enough to qualify. Heck, the added months of NAC work will just make the course that much easier for you if you do have to wait. I'd say you're golden either way, so don't even think of feeling down if you don't make it in for Winter! ;)

This is my second time applying and I agree with Ghosty1981 having all the paperwork in is helpful, and getting the rejection letter isn't terrible, you just pick up re-evaluate and try again. I applied the first time with not a whole lot of points or hope other than to get my name out there. Now my points are somewhat okay I think. So I am hoping and praying it is enough. I have 104.5 right now.. so we will see. I wish everyone here the best of luck!

Ghostly1981, Thank you! Application is in:) feeling hopeful, but not discouraged as you are right, spring quarter I will have more points and my application will already be submitted.

Does it take 4-6 weeks before we hear anything? Is it via usps?

The anticipation is going to kill me and it's only been less than 24 hours! Lol

Khinze, how many points did you apply with previously and which quarter? I wish you the best of luck! I would definitly say you are in with those points! I've asked multiple faculty (lol) kind of what some of the stats are for each cohort. Obviously it varies but was told they receive anywhere from 125-175 applicants and the average points are 103 (which we all know). Ya just never know!

When I applied it took the full 6 weeks so I don't expect anything until the week of November 13th. I applied with only 101.5 last time, the cut off was 104.55. I knew it was a long shot but I thought what can it hurt and it is good to apply anyways to make sure you get the education bonus and make sure the paperwork is filed right. Even if you aren't quite ready I would recommend applying anyway, you never know. I am hoping and praying two times the charm ;) Good luck to everyone here!! I am also incredibly anxious to hear back.

You got it!!!! Was this for fall? Also, do they share how many were on the waitlist?

Thank you so much! I hope we all do! I'm so ready to start. Yes this was for fall, and they do share how many were on the waitlist as well as the least amount of points that were awarded a spot which was 104.55 which was really high. But I was also told that Fall is popular because of new students and undergrads, winter is less applicants so I am going to cross my fingers for us all.

Khinze, do they contact you through email or US mail? I hate anxiously waiting by my mailbox. Good luck you guys and I hope I get to meet all of you in January!
