Hi everyone who is applying for winter quarter at SCC! Thought I'd connect with you while we anxiously wait for our results in mid November. This is my second time applying and so I'm really hoping I make it this time (before I had a score of 102.5, now it should be 104.7). From what I understand, I am cutting it close to the previous quarter cut offs so we will see. Good luck to everyone else who is applying!

Hello! I'm also applying to the Shoreline program for Winter 2018. I was debating whether I wanted to wait and apply for the part time program instead, but I figured I would apply this quarter anyway to see where I stand. I should have roughly 105 points, if my volunteer experience counts as "healthcare experience". I heard last quarter had an unusually high minimum point of 104.5, but it's usually right around 103 pts.
Good luck to everyone and I hope to see you in January!
Hey guys,
Quick question to those of you who have started the application already. I'm trying to enter my Accuplacer test scores but the application still has it under the "Compass" test and their scores only go up to 100 so I can't enter the correct values I received. Is anyone else encountering this?
Thanks!

For the Accuplacer you just enter a score. It will print out all the forms once you've completed the application and you can cross those Compass scores and write in "Accuplacer" and then the appropriate scores. You will be submitting your official Accuplacer score with the form anyway.
That's what we did for Fall. Good luck!

Hello! I am planning on applying soon, but I have a question: Do they only look at your current grades or do they also look at your current classes you are taking in the fall? I am retaking some classes to raise my point levels?
I think there are only two classes, Microbiology and Lifespan Psychology, that can be taken after the application period. You will get some points for being enrolled in them, but you won't get the full amount possible.
If you are retaking classes to raise your previous score then they will obviously be using your previous score for the current application. Once you have new, higher grades in those classes you can use those in future applications.
That's my understanding anyway.
I agree with Ghostly1981. They will only look at the grades on your transcripts, so fall classes will not count for the winter 2018 application.

Hi there! I am also planning to apply but debating if it's worth waiting until spring when I will have 3 more points now that I am working as a CNA. I currently have 102.9 points for winter but would have 105.9 for spring. Thoughts? I just don't want to feel disappointed or discouraged if I am not accepted. I also have to take the Accuplacer (testing this Monday) which I am a little confused about. I don't understand the scoring aspect of placing in either algebra or college level math. Can anyone elaborate??
Thank you and good luck to all who are applying!
I think you should apply! The benefit of getting in a quarter sooner would outweigh the potential disappointment for not getting in your first try, at least for me that is. Go into it with the mindset that if you don't get in, you will have a very high score in spring and can reapply.
Not sure about the test scores. I'm using my Compass test scores (it is the last quarter we can use them to apply).
I think you should apply as well! You never know what the minimum points will be for our application group and, if you don't get in, the nursing department will have all your information on file for the next quarter.
From my understanding, the Accuplacer test will start with questions right at the entry-level college math. As you answer more questions, the test will begin giving you harder or easier questions depending on if you are getting them right. When the test is finished, they will print out your results and you'll see if you got placed in algebra (pre-college level) or college level math, and the corresponding score.
I just noticed that you took your Accuplacer today, I hope you did great!
