Shoes Help

Published

For nursing school, I need white or black shoes. I've looked around at numerous stores for white Nike tennis shoes, but they all have mesh. And we are not allowed to have mesh; they have to be leather. She said Danskos are good, but I don't want to spend over $100 on shoes for school. Any opinions?

I found these on Amazon, and they seem to look good. Wondering if anybody has these Nurse Mates for shoes?

Or should I get tennis shoes? I have no idea which kind of shoe I prefer as I don't know which shoe would be more comfortable.

Depends on your feet and what you're willing to spend. Some people swear by Dansko's and some can't wear them because they hurt their feet. So it's really a matter of preference and what works for you. My nursing school is requiring us to wear white shoes (can be clogs or athletic type shoes, but must be all white). I also didn't want to shell out $120 for a pair of Dansko's that I wasn't sure would work for me. I have very flat, wide, long feet, so finding a shoe that fits and doesn't kill my feet is a little difficult. I did find a pair of Skechers that I like called Skechers Synergy Elite Status. They have a memory foam insole which is super comfortable, come in black and white, and a pretty wide variety of sizes and widths. They are also much more affordable than some of the other shoes I've come across.

Here's a link so you can see what they look like. Also, Kohl's looks like it is having a sale on them right now.

Hopefully this helps you! I was pretty excited to find these shoes so I've been telling people about them. :)

I tried and bought several different pairs of shoes. I finally bought a pair of black Crocs Neria work clogs, which work well for me. The point of this post is that you might have to try a few different styles and brands before you find shoes that work for you. Everyone is different and it's hard to tell how any pair of shoes will fare until you actually wear them for at least a shift or two (and in some cases, like Danskos, the shoes may need a breaking in period). It's very tricky to buy shoes without trying them on, even based on the recommendations of others. Feet can be rather picky and individual. ;-)

SHOES FOR CREWS - Eastside for women. Available in white or black. All leather slip on, very light weight, AMAZING support & flexibility. These shoes are about $50 with shipping and WORTH EVERY PENNY. They actually look really good with scrub pants. You don't have to worry about getting any sort of unmentionable gunk on them - they clean up easily(no shoe strings). . . and --- SLIP RESISTANT BOTTOMS! These shoes are nothing short of absolutely amazing. Takes 2-3 days for them to come in. And this company has at least a 60 day guarantee. If you don't love them, send them back. You will thank me.

I wore Nurse Mates Dove shoes all through nursing school, and they served me well. I had a friend that found a pair of no-name all white leather tennis shoes and she was successful with those. In the end, it'll depend on what you're willing to spend and what you find most comfortable.

I suggest you wear a pair of compression socks, no matter which shoes you choose to go with.

I have SAS Freetimes. They were not cheap, about $140 but worth every penny. My feet are never sore at the end of my shift. They are leather so they wipe easily, trust me, that is important. Good advice about compression stockings. When my shoes wear out I am going to get another pair just like them.

I bought a pair of white clogs awhile back for under $50 at the scrub store. They feel like you're walking on clouds. I can't remember the brand though, I'll have to find them.

When I needed white, I got a pair of Nurse Mates as I could not find anything that felt good that were white. When I needed black, I wore a pair of SAS shoes. I am one that does spend money for good shoes as I can be on my feet a lot. If a pair of shoes hurt my feet after a couple of shifts, I don't wear them again. Just make sure they fit well and have good arch support.
