Hi everyone!
Ok, so, here's the deal - I've seen everything on here about shoes and what brands people like, yada yada, but I haven't really seen anything for people with knee pain (both knees - and I'm 20...how depressing, lol! :)).
Any suggestions? I'm open to anything, as I plan on doing some major shoe shopping before nursing school this fall, so hopefully, I'll find something I (and my knees) like...and no, "cuteness" is not required - I'll take pain-free knees gladly over a cute shoe...
Oh, and if a certain shoe has "advice" that goes w/it (e.g. breaking Birkenstocks in, etc.), writing that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sorry about your bad knees. Have you seen an orthopedic doctor about them? There may be braces or other types of support that can help, depending on what the dx is. I have knees that bother me, but what is actually the problem is my low arches. If I wear arch supports my knees and my back feel better. I just got the ones at the drug store with maxium arch support.

Arch support will help. When I injured my knee my doctor recommended higher top shoes (not high tops) but something with more cushion and supprt near the ankles and gave me some awesome arch supports. They were very cushy and felt like I was walking on springs. Haven't had any pain since (and I have micro tears on my tendion still). Nurse mates makes some decent looking shoes with great support, just buy some good arch supports at the pharmacy to put in them. Also, naturalizers offer great support, but they aren't very stylish...

i, too have bad knees. in my case, it was due to flat feet and years of over-pronating. i tried new balance and easy spirit, reeboks, ascics -- all with an orthotic, and all great for fitness walking but not so good for work. i tried birkenstocks, and they just weren't comfortable for me. danskos did it -- the steel arch supports meant i didn't have to wear an orthotic, and they're so comfortable i never wear anything else!
try danskos, and it they don't suit your feet -- you'll know! -- try birkenstocks. some people swear by them, but i just can't wear them. they also have arch support.
also, try seeing a rheumatologist to see if they can do anything for your knees -- it may not be your arches, and maybe they can help you!

I have had multiple surgeries on both of my knees from too many yrs of playing softball......... I wear Dansko's and Merrells and thats it. Even on my days off Im in my Merrells. I couldnt tell you the last time I wore a pair of sneakers. Nike, Reebok, New Balance, Easy Spirit etc......all made my knees swell and I would be limping by the end of the shift. With Danskos and Merrells......... only a REALLY bad day do I limp or have swollen knees.

If your knee pain is caused by having flat feet, you might want to check this blog out: www.myflatfeet.blogspot.com
Good luck!
