This will vary from place to place, whether full time, part time or casual and probably province to province. I work 12 hour shifts and varies from 2 or 3 12 hour shifts with a break of 2 or 3 days, work every other weekend. Shifts are usually 10 nights and 9 days and then a break of a week before starting the rota again. It is a rolling rota so I know what I am working permanently
thank you maam for your valuable information. little confusing but i got what i wanted.hope i will get more news from you in future.

I work at a hospital in Edmonton, Alberta and here we either work 8 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts.
If you work 8 hours then your shifts switch between 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, or 11pm-7am.
If you work 12's then you work 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am.
