I'm currently an LPN in Edmonton, AB wondering if anyone here has taken the orthopaedic tech continuing education course through NorQuest? How was it for you? How do you like being an ortho tech vs. an LPN?

I work at a hospital in Edmonton, Alberta and here we either work 8 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts. If you work 8 hours then your shifts switch between 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, or 11pm-7am. If you work 12's then you work 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am.

Hey folks, I'm a fairly new LPN graduate in Edmonton, Alberta. I've been working for about 2 years now, majority in a busy ortho/plastics surgery unit at one of our hospitals. I've been considering taking the operating room tech course for LPN's through Grant MacEwan ever since I've graduated. Now that I have some experience under my belt I think it may be time to start the distance courses. I have not talked to ANYBODY who has done this course. I don't know any LPNs who work in the OR here in Edmonton. From what I understand the starting wage is only about 1$/hr more than my current LPN wage. Also, on the AHS website I've only be able to find about 5 jobs in the entire province that are open for application. And only one job here in edmonton at the U of A. Does anybody have any info on the Perioperative course at G.M? Or any info on where all the jobs are hiding?

Im going to LPN school in Alberta. Tuition is about $8000, books $3000, misc. supplies and services are another $2000. This is for a 19 month program. Thank goodness I'm getting a government grant for it that will cover EVERY PENNY for me, plus a monthly living allowance. I stongly suggest anyone planning on going to LPN school in Alberta to go to the student financial office of your school before registration and ask about the AlbertaWorks Gov't Grant Program. Its well worth it!

Hi everyone, I am soon starting LPN school in Edmonton and I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences with the clinical part of school. Its my understanding that we dont start clinicals until the second semester. Did you enjoy them? Were you nervous? How many times a week did you attend them? Did you find it a little overwhelming to have to deal with a day in clinicals as well as any homework you had? Any input is appreciated!

Hi everyone, I'm starting the LPN program at NorQuest College in Edmonton, Alberta this fall. I've been reading the threads in the First Year in Nursing Discussions, and I'm aware that your first year can be very terrible and full of stress at times. I was wondering if anyone here can give me insights to what some Edmonton-area hospitals are like to work in. Grey Nuns, Misrecordia, Royal Alexandria, University of Alberta, and any other places I may have missed. I'm so excited to start school and at this point I just can't get enough information about the profession to satisfy me.... so any response would be wonderful!

Hi Everybody! I am not new to AllNurses, although this is my first post. I will be attending Norquest College this Sept for the full time practical nursing program. I am set to graduate on the spring of 2009. I was wondering if anyone has gone to Norquest and would like to share their experiences. I am especially interested in the clinical part of it. Also, does anyone here work as an LPN in Edmonton? What do you think of it? Where do you work and how much do you get paid? I hope someone can answer all of my questions. Thanks!
