That's awesome! Is your background in PCU and onc? I did SICU as my #1 and MICU as my #2!

In school I had my preceptorship in cardiac PCU and loved it, so thats where the interest comes from. I went into nursing because I want to be an oncology nurse and having a clinical rotation on the oncology floor really solidified thats where I want to end up one day. So we will see! What about you, did you always want to go into the ICU setting?

That's really cool! Oncology is interesting - the school I went to unfortunately didn't cover it much! Is Sharp your #1 hospital? I started off loving pediatrics when my brother was born - he started in NICU and spent his first 9 months in PICU. I've always loved ICU from there but got more interested after doing one of my two externships in CVICU and doing my med-surg rotation in MICU and Neuro ICU!

For those of you applying from out of state- when do you graduate? Because I am hearing it could take 15 weeks to get your license, and that we can only apply for the CA license up to 2 weeks before our grad date.  I graduate in August so IDK if I will be able to be considered.  Also, does anyone know if Sharp takes interim permits?

I got my license transferred in a month! If you do everything properly it goes quickly. I went a university in NV and 2/3 of our cohort was going back to California and pretty much everyone I know got their license in 3-6 weeks. If you mess up on one part of it you can email and they'll bump it up too.

Kind of going off the above conversation... For those applying from out of state, do you recommend/are you going to take your NCLEX in California or are you going to take it elsewhere and transfer it? I can't decide what to do but I graduate in August so I need to get the process going asap!

I took my NCLEX in Kentucky as that's where I moved from. I applied for licensure in California. You can take the test anywhere for any state just apply for license by exam and not endorsement ?

Gotcha! And the timeline was pretty smooth? I graduate in August and the cohort doesn't start until November... So I'm giving myself a 3 months buffer to take the test and potentially transfer it to California if I decide to apply for licensure elsewhere, but I'm stressed about the timeline! Some people have said it would take longer to apply for your license in CA than it would to apply somewhere else and transfer/endorse it, and others say the opposite?

I graduated May 7, got my ATT May 26, took my test May 28, and got my license I think June 15ish. Not a bad wait and I chose to get my fingerprints in California so it could've maybe been faster than that had I sent them in before my exam instead of doing the livescan. I didn't look into endorsement and no one from my school is moving to California so I was very on my own. I thought it was a pretty quick and easy process overall - if I had any questions the board answered right away most of the time too!

So I went to school in KY but took my NCLEX in CA. The NCSBN told me that you can literally take it anywhere in the country but just register with the state board you want your license to be for. I wanted to take it where I could get it done the fastest, whether it was in Kentucky and endorse, take in KY but register for CA, or just take in California. If that makes sense...

Question- for those who applied for CA license from out of state, how early would you guys recommend applying before graduation to get it in time? I was told that you can only apply for your license 2 weeks from your graduation date but I don't know how accurate that is. Thanks in advance!

It took me about two weeks to get my ATT and I think their website will say the same! ?

Whaaat you got to do you medsurg in ICU? thats so cool.
And Sharp is in my top 3 in no particular order because I would like to stay in San Diego if I can. But I'll honestly go to who will take me ha.

That's not a bad wait at all! Thank you so much for all of the information, this is super helpful?
