Share you Deaconess Experiences!

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I've started looking into the Deaconess route for the LPN to RN program.

I'd appreciate it if anyone would share their experiences (good and bad) with Deaconess, even if you decided not to enroll... and why. What was the typical wait list like?

Thanks!

carly, i am aware of the nursing shortage. just because its a shortage doesn't mean it gives a school like deaconess to start these types of programs where students arent getting the right education and clinical experience. you all just don't get it. i'm graduating this year from my nursing program and its not online thank GOD. and just fyi phonix university online along with other schools that have these fly by night programs are under investigation. this was show on tv last week i believe it was dateline or 60 min. they are by the federal gov and the dep of education. i was so shocked to see all of these schools on there those that i even thougt was good such as phonix univ online. hummmmmm i wonder would deaconess make the list next time? probably so :rotfl:

Poeme, you just don't give up, do you? Still haven't gotten over failing at Deaconess??

Nadja9,

The hospital (Forest Park) was sold but the school (Deaconess) is still owned by Tenet.

Cheri

The school is not still owned by Tenet.

NICURNtobe,

I apologize for my misinformation...

Deaconess is now owned by Doctors Community Healthcare Corporation

Thanks

Hi Poe me,

I respect your point of view and you have the right to few any way you wish but I'm so happy with DCN's program and if you would like to now my preceptors are very happy to be helping me and they do such a good job doing it, I respect them so much and they sure are such a great example to me. I'm learning a great deal both at my lectures and at the hospital and I'm happy with the education I'm getting. Whenever I go to Deaconess Campus in St. Louis and I go through the halls and see all the pictures of the classes that have graduated from Deaconess campu programs over the years I feel proud to be a student there and I look forward to the day when I graduate and who knows my picture might hang on their halls someday as well. Also I would like to emphasize that Deaconess program isn't 100% online since we have preceptored clinical validations with the instructor in St. Louis each semester for several days. I'm sure you know that though because according to your postings you have attended Deaconess at one point in your education. I hope you are happy with your new school. Keep up the good work :)

LTNurse,

When I went to St Louis for the first time and walked down the halls of Forest Park Hospital into the Deaconess Campus and saw all the pictures, I thought the same thing. I am very proud to be a Deaconess student and perhaps they will add pictures of their first online graduates.

I also have experienced a welcoming attitude from the hospital and preceptors that are supporting my clinical experiences. They are so happy that I am there and the hospital's Director of Education has referred several hospital employees to me for more information about Deaconess's program. The nurses I have worked with during clinical have told me that I am more focused and prepared than most of the students they have come through from the community colleges.

These kinds of comments don't come from someone who just decided that a particular program wasn't for them. You're flaming them because there's a chip on your shoulder.

It's really going to be okay; just let it out and move on with your life. It's okay that they didn't let you stay in; you found another program that you can make it through. Just take a long, deep breath................................................................................and let it go.

There.........feels better doesn't it?

Any one care for some dip????? :-)

I am actively looking into going the Deaconess route, and really appreciate everyone's input. Anyone have any suggestions on how they secured their clinical site?
