SFSU - just how competitive is it? (BSN program)

All nursing programs in the Bay Area are hard to get in to because of the sheer number of applicants for a limited number of seats. One of my fellow students started out at SFSU but transferred out after one or two semesters because he found the atmosphere to be too political for his liking. That is all I have ever heard about that school.

I have a friend who went there for her undergrad/prereqs but ended up going to another CSU for NS. She got accepted at several CSU's, but not SFSU. SFSU has 1200 applicants for 80 or so spots! crazy!

You might find that any of the the other CSU's may be less competitive b/c there are less applicants to compete with. Check out BRN website.

SFSU gives points for patient experience and 2nd language as well, so if you don't have these along with a 4.0, you may want to look at other schools as well. The odds of getting in here seem almost impossible, my friend had a 4.0 and didn't get in here, but don't give up, just have a backup plan!

i was going to apply to SFSU last year. i went to an advisor and was told that if i didn't have at least 2 years of solid healthcare experience and a 3.85 gpa, don't bother applying.

i go to Samuel Merritt University in oakland. you have an excellent chance of getting in if you do your pre-reqs at one of their feeder schools (st mary's, mills, or holy names)

i hear cal state east bay is another good program, as is san jose state. usf and ucsf are excellent programs as well

Sonoma state too, but their program is very small 30 students or so . . .apply to as many schools as you can to maximize your chances of getting in. Good luck!

BTW, ucsf only has entry-level master's (you need a BS or BA) and other MSN programs, but if you get your RN from a CC, you can do their "bridge" program through JFK university to get your BSN, and then continue on in their MSN

Or, if you have a BS in another field and an RN, you can do MSN

There are so many options besides entry-level BSN! Just a thought . . .

I just got accepted into the program for Spring 2010. My gpa isn't perfect. I don't have any experiences in med field. I could speak two languages. I think it is hard to say what to expect.

My advise is that you should finish all your pre-req be4 applying for any nursing program.

I was at SFSU for less than a semester before I withdrew. I'm at a community college ready to transfer too, so SFSU is in my list.

While I was there, I went to an info sessions. I learned that there were 1200+ applicants for 80 seats, and that the average GPA was a 3.8+.

I will be applying to SFSU this October 1st as my 2nd choice school after CSU Bakersfield, and I am scared.

I have a 3.8+ prereq GPA with 2 prereqs in-progress (physio and anatomy). I also met ALL of their supplementary requirements with foreign language, health care experience, and multicultural experience. On top of that, my over all college GPA is a 3.7+.

I don't even know if that is competitive enough :no: , but hey, I might as well try to apply and make the pool more competitive.

lol @ soldius snake. DUDE MAN you are gonna get in. Based on what you just said there is like no way you can't get accepted. I wish I had the health care and foreign language points!

damn all i have is a 4.0 pre-req/overall and like 60 hours of volunteering. I am more worried than you are. lol

dude, your 4.0 killed my 3.82:chuckle. Do you only have multicultural experience? Even if I got accepted to CSU Bakersfield and SFSU, I'd still go to Bako because of their 21-month BSN than SFSU's 2.5 years.

Yeah I applying this fall too but I realllllly want to go to CSU East Bay. SFSU is like my 2nd choice. Dude you got like all of the requirements and you have really good grades. I think you got a good shot dude @ sfsu. I don't know anything about bakersfields requirements but you look damn competitive.

what is multicultural experience by the way? lol. I don't think I would qualify for that.
