San Francisco State University ELM-A Spring 2018
Hi everyone! I've been obsessively stalking all of the other SF State ELM-A topics but I haven't seen one for Spring 2018 yet. I hope we can share information as we try to survive this process together!
Some information I got from the online info session:
ADMISSION STATS: Every year 65-115 applications are received, 24 are ultimately admitted
COST: The ELM-A program costs a total of $65-66,000 (not subsidized by state funding, only federal loans available). The non-accelerated 3 year Entry level MSN in Fall semester is a total cost of $24,000.
LENGTH: 2 years, (6 semesters) no Summer breaks. Last 2 semesters are graduate-level courses.
DEADLINE: Cal State Apply: Aug. 31, NursingCAS: Sept. 17
LOR: 3, one must address health-related experience
EMPHASES: emphases do not affect your admission (no quotas for any of the specialties)
Adult gerontology, pediatrics, women's health, community/public health. Also Nursing Administration and Public Health Nursing.
INTERVIEW: Group format interview sometime in October (not 100% on this). I've heard that it is VERY brief.
GRE: Analytical Writing score of 4+ (only writing score is considered)
A little myself: Semi recent grad - English major from small liberal arts college, 1.5 years of experience volunteering at a women's health clinic as a health educator, also a volunteer hospital birth doula for 1 year. I have never worked professionally in a health field other than through volunteer work, which may disadvantage me. I speak Spanish fluently and live in the Bay Area. Undergrad GPA: 3.81, Prerequisite GPA: 3.85. Still waiting to hear about GRE Analytical Writing. I am hoping to apply for a women's health specialty or Public Health. I should really decide by now!
Please post about yourself and any questions or answers you might have! Hope to hear from you all ?
No problem! I'm not 100% sure, I mean I don't see why not! They're different application deadlines. The only scenario I'd think it may look off is if you got accepted to the accelerated route, declined, then re-applied to the traditional route for that same year. I don't know how they'd feel about that, or if they'd even care. It's worth calling the school about though!
I applied to this program as well! I have a BS in Health Administration from and have been working in management for assisted living/memory care for the past 2 years. I also worked as tutor for the health admin department. My pre-requisite GPA is 3.4 and my last 60 units are 3.5. I got a 4.5 on the GRE.
I applied for the administrative track. What did you all apply for?
I did too! I woke up with my heart racing thinking it was from the nursing admissions board lol. I think it just means that the graduate programs department sent our application info (like ID# and information regarding us meeting minimum requirements put forth by the grad dept) to the nursing admissions? not 100% sure though
I haven't heard anything, other than that same email from the graduate department mentioned above. When I log in to mysfsu and go to the student center, it says I have no pending applications, which worries me a little. Does anyone else know if they have that? Hopefully no big deal.
Regarding applying for multiple programs- I also found conflicting information, but my best understanding after asking a few places is that you just can't apply to any two with the same application period, so you couldn't have applied for the BSN and MSN both this cycle.
Hi yawp,
Mine says the same thing. When you click into the Self Service section, there is a drop down that says "student admissions" and "application status." I haven't found that it's giving any information about our application status other than the fact that it shows up that we applied to the ELM-A program.
Also still waiting to hear back about interviews! Good luck to everyone!

Hi yawp,
Sorry for the late response, I hope you found a way to sort through this! But for future applicants:
I had this issue too. A lot of schools with online requests allowed me to upload the transcript request form onto my online request for transcripts. One school made it mandatory for me to request my transcript in person if I wanted to add an attachment. I would verify with the schools! I called each one to double check how they handle attachments.
