SFSU BSN Fall 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello, I created this post to see the overall applicant pool applying on Fall 2013 for the academic year 2014-2015. I wanted to open a new thread for those of you who are planning to apply to the BSN prelincensure program to SFSU, to share additional information, support each other, and to see how fierce the competition will be for this upcoming academic year.

For you,

Overall GPA:

Prereq GPA:

TEAS V Score:

Supplemental Criteria:

I haven't finished all of the requirements but when I do I'll update it.

Overall GPA: 3.55

Prereq GPA: 3.44 (still need physio lab and anatomy)

TEAS V Score: N/A (still in progress)

Supplemental Criteria: over 100 hours at SFGH (multi-cultural/health-related work), 3 semesters of Spanish (bilingual), and letter of recommendation (if applicable).

Thank you all and I wish all of you the best of luck, may the odds be ever in your favor!

Am I the only one who has not been accepted to the actual university itself yet? I haven't received any updates regarding my status with SFSU. I submitted all my transcripts before the deadline so I'm not sure what is going on. Online it just says that my application is "complete." I can't submit an intent to enroll until I'm actually accepted... -_-

My status also just says complete. It actually still said incomplete up until a week or two ago. Undergraduate admissions told me this was because I am taking a prerequisite course this semester. On the forum for the GMSN program, folks are saying that the status doesn't change to admitted until you are actually admitted by the nursing department. Maybe it's the same for us? Hopefully they will let us know before May 1st so things don't get complicated with the intent to enroll deadline.

Same here! All of my info was in on time, so Im not sure what to do next.

Do any of you know if it is true that SF STATE cut out the preceptor program as part of their curriculum? I forgot where I had right now but I remember reading it and how they also cut it from 3 years to 2years. Thanks!

They definitely cut the preceptorship out. They also removed Pharmacology and Pathophysiology as seperate classes and integrated the content into the curriculum.

I was accepted to SFSU last year and chose another program due to the lack of a preceptorship. Many employers look at what type of unit you did your preceptorship on and use that as part of the criteria for hiring. I opted not to take the risk and chose a different program. I didn't want to handicap myself in an already brutal new grad market. I also have heard from my nursing mentors that the preceptorship is an important professional transition for student nurses. They shared that they felt so much more confident in their skills for having completed one.

Do you have any idea why they did that? It doesn't make sense to me. A preceptor program is so important. It makes not want to attend SF state although it would be cheaper for me to do so since my family is there. I'll have to rethink this. Thanks donut151! Where did you end up going?

I don't know why they removed it, but I had heard from a former student that even when they still technically had it in the curriculum, that her capstone (preceptorship) never actually occurred. She said she contacted the preceptor a few times and never heard back from the person. However, I don't know how hard she tried to make it happen. Based on what my nursing buddies have told me about working with SFSU new grads, it doesn't sound like this was an isolated incident. Perhaps, for whatever reason, they had been having difficulty implementing the preceptorship for some time.

I ended up choosing CSUEB.

Apparently acceptances are coming out next week. I'm so anxious!
