Hello all! I am new to this forum and had a lot of questions about the application process for nursing school, specifically SF state's program.
I'm planning on applying to their Spring 2017 program, but have heard mixed reviews about it. Is there anyone currently in their nursing program that can shed any light on it? I've heard that it's very difficult to get classes, making it almost impossible to finish the program in the advertised 2 years (takes more like 3 years). I've also heard that due to the high demand of classes and lack of availability, students end up transferring out.
My current GPA is 3.57 and I scored a 81.3% on the TEAS. I also work as a Medical Assistant for 4 years now, ranging in different types of specialties/clinics. My grades aren't as competitive as what I would like it to be, but I'm hoping that my work experience makes up for it. Should I retake my TEAS test to try and get a higher score?
If you're applying to the program, put your stats below!
Thank you all for your input!
Did u have healthcare experience? Are u bilingual in Vietnamese? I had weak stats too but I feel like I did well in the interview lolnot sure about the computer thing tho sry
I have a good amount of Healthcare EXP. I might of said this to a couple of you guys tho. I served 10 years in the Air Force. 5 years as a Medical Technician (Medic) working in Pediatrics, Allergy/Immunizations, ED and Medical Records. 5 years as a Medical Laboratory Technician working in Microbiology, Chemistry, Transfusion Services and Specimen Collections. I am not proficient in either Chinese or Vietnamese. I believe my experience and interview is what saved me.
I really wish I found this forum earlier before the entire process! It would have probably helped reassure me since I didn't know anyone applying. A lot of the people that I did know at school switched majors. Anyways, I also got the acceptance email recently, so I'm really looking forward to meeting you all soon!
Does anyone know which stethoscope they are purchasing yet? I was looking through them, but I'm not sure which would be a good fit. If anyone has an opinion or know more info about any of them, please let me know :) and is anyone planning on joining the NSA?
The way my budget is looking.... I might just be the Classic SE II. Lol

Try to go for the Littman Cardiology series. They are pricier than the Classic but they are really worth it in the long run (provided you do not lose it/forget it at clinicals or at work). I bought the Master Classic about 2 years ago and it works great too, but then I used some of my coworkers' Cardiology 3 and I wished that I had bought that one instead, because now if I want it I would have to dash out another $200 just for the Cardiology 3.
The BSN group started a slack group for connecting, discussions, projects and communication etc. There are about 20 of us on it so far. We don't have the ELMSN class email list so if any of you guys want to join or if any of the BSN group didn't get the invite, pm me and I will add you. It is basically a messaging platform that is divided into different channels for example #general #social #gwar #carpool #housing #pharmacology #exams #cohort-bsn-a-e #cohort-bsn-f-j etc. etc. You can subscribe to the channels you want to be a part of, ignore the ones you don't and create any new ones that you want. You can create a social channel to talk about your favorite TV show or whatever. We can also use it for groups for projects or for direct messaging individuals. You can upload documents and pictures and it is compatible web based or phone app. 2 min intro video on Slack: Slack
