SF State Nursing Program, Spring 2017

Published

Hello all! I am new to this forum and had a lot of questions about the application process for nursing school, specifically SF state's program.

I'm planning on applying to their Spring 2017 program, but have heard mixed reviews about it. Is there anyone currently in their nursing program that can shed any light on it? I've heard that it's very difficult to get classes, making it almost impossible to finish the program in the advertised 2 years (takes more like 3 years). I've also heard that due to the high demand of classes and lack of availability, students end up transferring out.

My current GPA is 3.57 and I scored a 81.3% on the TEAS. I also work as a Medical Assistant for 4 years now, ranging in different types of specialties/clinics. My grades aren't as competitive as what I would like it to be, but I'm hoping that my work experience makes up for it. Should I retake my TEAS test to try and get a higher score?

If you're applying to the program, put your stats below!

Thank you all for your input!

Hey @avalanche do you think you could post a final count of how many people are on that app? Are all those on the app students who have accepted their admission?

Sorry im still nervous about being on the waitlist and would like to know if there is even a slight possibility of getting an offer still :/ thx

Our class roster has 39 people on it. 4 cohorts of 8 and 1 of 7 so maybe they still have a spot to fill for the 5th group. I don't know if everyone on the roster showed up for orientation last Monday as we were mixed in with the ELMSN and RN-BSN folks. Good luck!

For future applicants who will have searched all previous threads feverishly awaiting there admission decisions, I just wanted to give an update about the spots available and waitlist for this application period. There are 40 spots for the BSN program this semester and I was wait listed at #13 out of 40. The spring waitlist is only open for 1.5 months versus 4 for fall. No one from the waitlist has been contacted since the list opened which was 11/30

Mothernurseclub thanks for posting the update about the wait list! I wish I would have found this feed earlier! I am wait listed at #20. Probably pretty unlikely to get in but still really nerve racking!

Yep I know how u feel! I was feeling good with reading that ppl in the 70s on the waitlist got in but since there is less than a month left before the list closes and orientation for admitted students is over.... I'm accepting the rejection :lol2:

[COLOR=#313131]Did anyone take their last prerequisite this semester, fall 2016? Do you know if the transcripts are to be sent to nursingCAS or to SFSU admissions and SFSU school of nursing? Do you know if they are to be physically delivered, mailed, or sent electronically? Thanks!

From the admission email:

"Completion of all nursing prerequisite coursework by the end of Fall 2016 semester. Verification must be provided to the School of Nursing and official transcripts indicating completion must be on file with the appropriate university Office of Admissions no later than January 10, 2017."

The school where you completed the prerequisite must send an official transcript to Undergraduate Admissions at SFSU as soon as the grades are updated in your transcript. That is what the school of nursing told me in an email.

Update: I am number 1 on the waitlist but will be declining my spot! For those of you still waiting don't lose hope!

Mothernurseclub, have you gotten into another program? They made it pretty far down that waitlist to get to you!

I was #13 and in the past they went to the 70s. I start clinicals at USF this spring. Goodluck to you all at sfsu!

Enjoy USF. It's a beautiful campus.

Mothernurseclub, how did you find out your updated waitlist status? I am also waitlisted. Thank you and best of luck at USF. It's a beautiful campus. Many of my friends graduated there and are amazing nurses today.

Is anyone accepted but their major hasn't been changed to nursing yet so you can't register for classes?
