Recently, at our small community hospital, the only hospitalist on the 7p-7a shift wasn't answering his pager when a CCU nurse was looking for him about a patient. After several attempts to reach him, she went looking for him, thinking he might be sleeping(that's allowed) Upon hearing voices behind the sleep room door, she summoned the Nsg supervisor, who found the door to be locked. She in turn got a maintenance man to unlock the door. Behind the door, she found quite a sight. The hospitalist and an off duty nurse. She was naked, he scrambling for his clothes. Both are married--not to each other.
She was given a mere 2 days suspension. He works for a physicians group that staffs hospitals, and we have not seen him since.
She has worked for the hospital for many years. What do YOU think should happen to her?
I am only on page 7 so far, but has this been addressed...............a CCU nurse needed a dr now, enough to page multiple times and go LOOKING for the dr. what about the patient? Not sure how this works, but the times i have needed the dr NOW or enough that I would consider hunting them down , the last thing I would do is leave my patient to go get the maintanence man. Yes i would page the nursing supervisor, for the patient's sake. How long did this whole fiasco take and what was the dr even being paged for ?
That hospitalist is over 60 and prior to becoming a hospitalist he was a GP in this community for years. And a nasty self centered ass. What attracted her to him, most of us cannot figure out.
Maybe there is one big significant reason she thinks he's hot. :rotfl:
Really it isn't a big deal. I seriously doubt he will be fired. I am positive he will be afraid his wife will find out. Your statement that he's a nasty self centered ass.......tell me just the kind of alley cat MD he is, they were two consenting adults and the nurse was not in duty. They couldn't get a room he was supposed to be at the hospital in the sleep room. Trust me this goes on ALL the time. At least he was in the building.....I had one that I would page overhead at the hospital down the road (non affiliate) because he was getting paid by 2 places. The drama behind the scenes is amazing and covered up by administration, you just can't make this stuff up. I once had a pair of VP's who would go at it in the car in the garage, you see that car a rocking don't go knocking.
My cup of tea? no......but not illegal
Darn good point!...a CCU nurse needed a dr now, enough to page multiple times and go LOOKING for the dr. what about the patient? Not sure how this works, but the times i have needed the dr NOW or enough that I would consider hunting them down , the last thing I would do is leave my patient to go get the maintanence man.
And i wholeheartedly agree!
Don't misinterpret--I don't think many people are "YEAH, team"....it is not a frat house. My own issue with this is that someone was listening at a door, had a motivation to "bag" someone, and then went to Town with it. Call 1-800 maury if you want to be a whistle blower, or you get into embarassing your co-workers. However, what is clear is that A. It is none of anyone's business what goes on in a call room behind a locked door (it wasn't as if they were shagging in bed 2 while bed 1 had a patient in it) and B. If someone knocked or called out or both, no one would have ever known that there was anything going on in that room. Don't go looking for drama--or listening at the door for it. Was it incorrect that the MD was not answering the page? Well, that depends. He could have been asleep, he could have been in the shower, he should (if it is a "sleep if you want" on call) have a time limit to answer. Frustrating, yes, but if the facility truly wants someone awake on call then it should be awake on call, on the unit, as I would assume that if you need the MD it is stat, and not many people can wake from a deep sleep and be ready for a stat situation. Which would make more sense if it is a CCU on call we are talking about. Needless to say, dont' sew a giant "A" on the scrubs, as you really have not a CLUE what anyone's true personal situation is, therefore, leave the judgement at the door on your way in.

She delivers herself like a pizza right to his door at the hospital and he can't go anywhere else. Truthfully, otherwise, he likely couldn"t be bothered to invest the energy and his precious free time on her outside of work.
