So I'm watching television.... nursing and hospital shows of course...and they are always showing someone in these shows who is in love with another nurse, or doctor and they always end up having sex while in the hospital. My question is does this really go on at the workplace? How many of you have witness this, heard about it happening, or was one of the parties involved?
I've heard a few stories but never have participated..nor would I. I'm no cheap date. You're going to have to take me out for a nice dinner if you want me to put out and grody cafeteria food doesn't count either.
Really, though. In all the cases where a nurse got caught servicing a doctor at the hospital, the doc got a slap on the wrist-the nurse got fired. So not worth it.
When I did clinicals at the LTC facility I know we were told we have to keep a good eye on the residents in the secured unit because they have been busted having sex a lot of times because they forget they are married and stuff.
Remember that story a couple years ago about Sandra Day O'Connor's Alzheimer's-stricken husband and his girlfriend? And that the family was okay with it because he no longer knew who they were, and this relationship had, as one of their sons put it, caused the light to come back on again?
I think he died not too long ago.

in the cases i've witnessed, only the woman gets fired.
no one got fired where i work . . . . the times they were caught was usually by a staff member who accidentally happened upon an embrace or saw them come back all disassembled . . ..:) no real "proof".
what i find weird is . . . .how do you keep working with someone when the affair is over? there are quite a few folks who fooled around with one particular person . . . .and they all keep working together.
if i had done something like that - i'd be so mortified - i would have to leave.
steph:confused:
actually, you're pretty darned close.i work w/dying pts (inpatient)
you'd be surprised how many would love to have that '1 more time' with their loved one.
i try to set up the room, as cozy as possible.

How sweet, leslie! That would bring tears to my eyes just thinking about it. So proud of u for doing that for your patients. So many just try to arrange a cigarette or something. That's just sweet!

What a beautiful story, ozone. If only people could see the scenarios etched in our minds like that, those things that happen over the years that grab us and won't let go. I'd like sometimes to mentally transfer it to new nurses and students when they ask "what's it like to be a nurse?"
Definetly, especially the last few classes of clinical students I worked with before I retired - the main questions were "Which MDs are single, which cheat, which MDs will write u rxs", that kind of thing.
Both of u, leslie and ozone are blessings to your patients.

quote=Aquarius85;4175418]what happens to people that sleep around at work? Do they get fired ?
I have NEVER seen anyone fired for it. One night, the male RN and the female CNA got caught in the CS dept in the act. The male RN charge nurse got promoted to days and the CNA got suspended.

The only story I know of where I work is that one of the cardiologists started dating one of the nurses, then divorced his wife and married the nurse. And I think it wasn't the first for him.
We are all human and the workplace is an obvious place to meet someone - you share the place in common, and possibly also interests, and you're there most of your waking life.... And what's wrong with it, as long as the relationship and/or rumors don't disturb or compromise the integrity of your work.
