Seriously on the verge of going crazy..

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey y'all!

So, a couple months ago I posted about having trouble in my A&P II class because my professor is terrible, etc, etc. Well after I posted about failing a test, my next test went very well. I made a 92....We just took a test a couple days ago. Grades were posted today and I made a 50?!? Like .. I'm just really on the verge of giving up with this class and possibly withdrawing. I was starting to settle for a B, but after that test grade, the highest grade feasible is a C. I already have a C on my transcript and really don't want another one. I spoke with another classmate and we made similar grades- I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the class did as well. This professor is so ......... Well, I don't know how to put it nicely.

I studied a lot, listened to lectures over and over, read the book, and still failed. I actually walked out feeling very confident after taking the test and I honestly don't know what to think. I understand all of the material and everything, so that's really why I'm so confused. I have set up an appointment with my professor because I feel like he has made a mistake somewhere. There is no way possible that I made that low on a test. Since I've been in college I've never failed a test that bad.

Worst case scenario is that I actually did do that bad on the test :( I don't know what happened. Would you guys withdraw and retake the class this summer, finish the class out with the C & retake this summer, or just keep the C? GPA wise, this C would drop my GPA from a 3.8 to a 3.74, which isn't too bad, but I feel like a C just looks bad on a transcript, especially for a class like A&P. Any advice?

SN: I've already been accepted into a BSN program starting in the fall, so based off that, what would you do?

I would keep it moving. You say your already accepted to BSN school....I would continue with the plan.

Well, depending on the nursing school you're applying to, A&P II is an important component to determining your acceptance to the nursing school. For example, where I'm applying, four classes (including A&P I and II) are based on a point scale and, added with your TEAS, gives you a score that they use to compare with other applicants and determine which students will be in the program. So, if your TEAS scores aren't great, and your other prereq grades aren't great, I would recommend retaking the class. But it's not unheard of that a nursing student had a C in one their prerequisite grades, so it's not the end of the world if you decide not to retake it. However, it is probably better if you retake it to give you an extra edge over other applicants. Hope that helps!

Oh you've already been accepted to BSN school? Then don't worry about it and ignore everything I said. Just make sure you do well in your other classes!

This.

You're already been acepted into a BSN program.

I would still go and see the professor to review the test, even if it's to ensure a C, or better.

If you have been accepted already just keep the C. That is all we need to pass a class and if I had already been accepted, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I probably will just take the C and keep it moving. It doesn't drop my GPA too much, it's just the thought of having yet another C on my transcript that bothers me. Then I have to take this same professor during a 4 week patho course this summer. God forbid I get another C :sniff: Ugh .. my life.

Update: I still haven't met with this professor. He has cancelled on me twice this week  But he did e-mail me saying there was a mistake made when grading my test. I didn't put my test version down on the test, so it was graded with the wrong answer key. Soo now I have to find out if he's willing to re-grade my test or not. It could go either way, but I'm hoping for the best. I will update you all on what happens next!

Good day ♫patiently_waiting

has sections on how to study differently including for A&P; she also provides hints on how to get the most out of meeting with a professor especially related to learning about future tests.

Thank you.

You have an email from your professor saying he made a mistake grading your test???? If you do you print it out and take it to the department head. I have never heard of anyone admitting in an email they made a mistake grading a test. One thing is really try to get way from blaming professors for bad grades. I did nursing school a few years ago and no one wants to hear about blaming instructors. It is pointless unless they are sending out emails saying they screwed up or something (mind boggling if he really did that). Get in the adapt and overcome mentality. So you have a difficult instructor..so be it. Learn to survive. Figure out what they want. If they expect a lot embrace the challenge. You will deal with doctors who are all over the place. Not to mention multiple co workers all coming at you from different angles. Good luck!

Yes, he emailed me saying he used the wrong answer key, BUT that was because I failed to write down which version of the test I had. That was my fault. He did give me the correct grade, and everything is fine now.

True, blaming instructors is pointless. Good advice, I'll take it. Thanks!
