I do not think it is right for the US to be sending masks, gloves, etc. to Iran or any other country when our own nurses and other health care workers can't even get sufficient quantities.

Its China: Jack MA CEO of Alibaba = US Amazon that is sending PPE: masks, etc to Iran
https://en.irna.ir/news/83703765/Chinese-entrepreneur-donates-one-million-masks-to-Iran
He is also sending 1 million masks and 500,00 Corona virus test kits to US

So once again the news reports are fake? It's not the US sending these things to Iran?

Hello, Grumpy, RN. I will try to get it.
Hi, Grumpy
I am not seeing the article now. Perhaps I misread it, as NRS Karen pointed out above.
I do think it is absolutely wrong for CDC or other organization to not release to front line workers the stockpiles they are said to have. And for BON's to order staff to work unprotected is unconscionable. If people must die because those who plan for emergencies didn't plan well enough or because the Prez won't order private firms to make the supplies needed then I guess they will just die - unless nurses and doctors continue to allow themselves to be bullied by their bosses, who sit about in meetings making directives to be followed by their expendable staff.
And don't you love how people who do have masks, such as those in construction or hobbyists like woodworkers are asked to DONATE what they have? Is the hospital accountant's hand broken? He can't write a check to BUY this vital stuff?
Meantime, I guess everyone on the front lines should construct their own masks. There are patterns and instructions online.

Korky:
I've heard Governor Cuomo state during TV news reports and CNN had a report today that FEMA + U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Strategic National Stockpile purchased any remaining available PE supplies from vendors. Previously purchased and ordered facility PPE orders not being filled as supplies exhausted along with being commandeered by HHS.
Worldwide virus pandemic = worldwide inventory shortage, production unable to keep up with demand.

Which board(s) of nursing have done this?
Previous AN poster reported Oregon BON not permitting assignment refusal if insuficent PPE.
Oregon BON clarified their position:
QuoteIn the Governor’s declared State of Emergency authorization, OHA was tasked to provide the state response to COVID-19. Nurses cannot refuse an assignment solely because the employer is utilizing OHA guidelines rather than WHO or CDC guidelines. All nurses and nursing assistants are entitled to keep themselves safe through appropriate use of PPE. The Board of Nursing does not expect nurses to work without PPE. The Nurse Practice Act will always support the ability of a nurse to refuse an assignment when they do not have the knowledge, skills, competencies, and abilities to safely accept it. Having PPE,or not having PPE,comes under the “abilities” section of the practice act.https://www.oregon.gov/osbn/Documents/OSBN_COVID_PracticeStatement.pdf

Sorry I'm a bit later getting back than I intended.
This lack of PPE seems to be a worldwide problem although South Korea seem to be doing OK.
It is getting very scary here so stay safe everyone. Usually the saying is America sneezes and Europe catches a cold but it is reversed. You guys have the advantage(?) of seeing what is happening in Italy, Spain and now UK. Hopefully the leaders can get their acts together because if it happens here it will happen to you.

I thought I heard that on the BBC but could not find the report. Please stay safe everyone.
We have just had a national applause for the NHS tonight at 20:00hrs. People came to their doors and windows and applauded and banged pots and pans to show the appreciation for the healthcare workers and a lot of things, buildings etc. were lit up blue.

The government have also put in place financial help for employees and self employed who are going to go under without it.
As I said to someone tonight (on Whatsapp), "as the old Chinese insult said, May you live in interesting times." These are very definitely "interesting times."
ETA, I have gone onto the BBC website and the report on US cases has just appeared.
