Seminole State - UCF Concurrent Program Fall 2012

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi everyone, thought I would start a support group for the SSC/UCF Concurrent Program starting Fall 2012 hopefuls :) Is everyone getting their applications ready for submission... the deadline is approaching quickly!

For those who applied to the general program why did you decide to go that route over the concurrent? Are there any advantages I'm not privy to?

I have a friend that went the ASN route with SSC. She had a previous undergrad degree in art history. However, her GPA was not high enough for the accelerated and she did not get into the concurrent - so when she was accepted into SSC ASN it was her only option. What she plans on doing is UCF's RN to MSN which shortens the time for the transition and she still is capable to get the graduate degree she wants. You are right Protas most hospitals are now looking to achieve "magnet" status which requires about 75% employees to hold a minimum of a BSN. This is definitely effective for ORMC and Florida Hospital. So I can see why a lot of us are unsure why to pursue the ASN still. But, those who have trouble getting into the BSN programs due to the competitiveness are capable to bridge the RN to a higher level degree and have the same opportunity.

Understood, thanks for clearing that up for me, sunshine03.

Hey I was accepted into the concurrent program too!! :) Do we have to sign both emails from scc and ucf and send them back? or only the one from concurrent? Also I'm looking for a roomate I live right across the street from ucf my apartment is a 2 by 2 and rent is really cheap! Let me know if your interested! :)

Yes sign and return both the ssc and Ucf emails! Congratulations!

Congrats to you guys for your acceptance letters. We just finished our first semester and I love it. Let me know if you guys have any questions and I will be happy to answer them.

has anyone received any type of confirmation that UCF received the e-mails? I called and e-mailed UCF to see if they received it and I can't get ahold of them. I'm starting to get worried because the deadline is coming up!

My friend got his letter (Denial) Monday saying the same thing. They are clearing a back log of applicants from 2010!

(I thought SSC had no waiting list) He applied for the ADN program

Also I don't get it, you folks are actually waiting around for two years to get into a two year ADN program?

I thought with my good GPA 3.94 cum (one class left in summer for A.A) was the hard work needed to get a place ahead in the line. Guess not!

My email said that everyone who was accepted was from FFall 2010 or earlier and with a 3.0 and I'm an Alternate for the AS. Turns out the part about picking people from Fall 2010 was a "mistake" because it was Summer 2010. I finished my prerrqs by Fall 2010 with a 4.0 GPA and yes, they still are making me wait! I'm on the top 10 Alternates for the AS and they have until August 4 to notify if a spot opened up for me... To those who ask about GPA, don't worry about it because they'll make you wait 2 years anyway! The funny thing is that the first semester around 20 students drop out and by graduation, less than 50 are left...

I did the same thing,krod34! I called and requested a confirmation email but haven't heard back from them just yet. I will try again tomorrow. I want to make sure that this silly mistake does not happen after all the waiting and hard work. Please share with us whether you got your confirmation yet!

dawniepoo, thank you for being so kind to share your experience with us. I heard that first semester is the hardest one because of all the new stuff you have to organize... Is that true? My main question is: do you have time for work? (At least 1 shift a week).

It is true that some students drop out the first semester. It's not 20, but more like 3 or 4. I was an alternate and got called by UCF on the last possible day to get a call, so don't give up. Most students apply at least twice to the program before getting in.

Yanochka, since I have only completed one semester, I'm not sure if it is the hardest, but I do caution everyone to be completely organized. It was hard to keep up with the schedule because it did change occasionally and I found it a challenge to organize childcare and work. Yes, I did have time to work some- between 12-15 hrs a week, but I didn't have time for anything else.

dawniepoo, thank you. Although I understand that each student is different and everyone handles school differently, an opinion of someone who is already in the program could be inspiring! Do you have clinicals on your first semester?

Yes, clinicals start about halfway through the semester. You start at long term care and then to acute care.
