Seminole State Spring 2012 Generic/Concurrent Applicant

U.S.A. Florida

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone else is on this website that is applying to the upcoming spring evening term for SSC and if so, what are your thoughts. Are you nervous? I am!

I'm curious to see how many people are applying for ONLY the Generic RN. At the Information Session, they said the majority of the applications they receive are for the Concurrent UCF/SSC RN program. However, 70 seats are given to the concurrent applicants, and the remaining 30 are for the General RN (us). So that worries me a little :/ I have all of my pre-reqs completed! I am on the Valencia waiting list for January 2013, but am trying to get in to SSC to start sooner. The only thing I'm worried about is my TEAS score. I have a 77%, and a 3.0 GPA. I don't know if that's good or bad. I'm considering re-taking the TEAS though before I apply just to see if I can get it any higher...

I'm going to try for the Concurrent again. When I turned in my application last time around, there were probably less than 20 out of the 150 applications that had been turned in that were generic-only, but that was also only at one campus and with a few days to go on the deadline.

I have a 78.7 on the TEAS V, and that's the 88th percentile. My friend just got an 83 and was told it was in the 96th percentile. I may take the TEAS again now that I'm basically done with all of my UCF prereqs, but I don't think that a 77% is going to count you out. A lot of people who have higher scores may have taken the TEAS IV, which was apparently much easier, so don't compare yourself to them. And a 3.0 GPA may not matter - what is your prereg/program GPA?

And, I'm on the Valencia Spring 2013 list with you. Apparently we're already ahead - some people who applied after this last semester are signed up for Summer 2013.

I'm nervous too. I've been putting if off for so long, but we are running out of time. :uhoh3:

It's definitely not as bad as you think it will be. I was so incredibly nervous and put it off for forever. When I finally took it, I was fine. I bought the review book and did the pre-tests, studied what I missed over the course of like 3 days and then took the test. I got a 78.7, which is the 88th percentile. My worst section was science, but a lot of what I missed was stuff that I'd learned in high school and since forgotten.

I'm applying General RN track only. Overall GPA sucks and is impossible to bring up at this point since I have so many credits. :(

That's good to know! I had no idea there were not that many applicants trying to get into the Generic program. So do you think there is a better shot maybe?

I hear the same thing about Valencia.... Valencia was actually my first choice, but the waiting list is just too long. So I checked out Seminole. So far, I think they're program seems pretty solid and I hear good things about it. Not every program is perfect!

I'm not sure what my pre-req GPA is... how do I calculate it? Is that was SSC uses when they choose applicants, or do they use your overall GPA with your entire coursework?

They use a recalculated GPA. Only the required classes count.

Actually, I think that if you apply for the generic program only, you have less of a shot. First, UCF goes through all of the concurrent applicants and they pull the 70 that they want for the program. Those last 30 generic places go to the top 30 of everyone left, and that includes everyone who applied for the concurrent program and didn't get in.

Oh geez. Less of a shot? That's discouraging. This is so hard, lol. It's hard because I know how bad we all want this, and there's just no guarantees and so many questions! I'm so thankful though that all of the advisors at SSC have been more than willing to help me. They are fantastic. I guess we just wait and see what happens! I finished all of my science pre-reqs in Fall of 2009, and then Summer 2010, and all of the other ones around the same time, too. So hopefully that helps... I know they take that into consideration even before your GPA.

I took the TEAS today. Thank GOD that's over! I checked the website yesterday and nothing has changed yet for application procedures. It's only Aug 2 though. :lol2:

Dawniepoo, what was your score? I am going to re-take my TEAS for my 3rd and final time, just to see if I can get it any higher. Nervous though!!! I checked the website today, still no applications. I can't believe it's only a month and a half away until we turn them in!

Melissa, I got an 87.3. I'm ok with that. I really do not want to take it again. It's a lonnnnnng test . I am officially done with my AA now and I am already bored. My mind needs exercise, LOL.

Melissa, your TEAS scores is very good. I applied last August 2010 for the Spring 2011 Program and I got into the concurrent program. At the time of my application I had just finished all my SSC Prereq's (Summer 2010) and was in the middle of 2 of my final prereq's for UCF. I was scared that since I had just finished my Pre req's they were not going to take me, but they did. I think they look at your GPA first.

my GPA was 3.88 and I scored only 77.1 on the teas.

I am getting ready to start my 3rd Semester this Fall and I am loving every minute of it!!

Good luck to all you ladies.

BTW, don't get discourage if you have lower GPA. Some people got in with GPA 3.0 but higher TEAS score.
