Hi fellow prenursing students! I thought I would check in and see how everyone is doing in their classes the semester. Check in and let us know how your classes are going, what are you loving or hating, what is challenging you or what you are surprised isn't so difficult after all. Bascially- how you're doing!
I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology 2 and Microbiology and Pathology. I was taking Chemistry 1 and ended up dropping it as it was too hard taking three science w/labs at one time when one of those classes is CHEM! I started A/P 2 off bumpy but am back to an A thanks to a 103 on my last lecture exam over cell respiration, metabolism, blood and blood clotting. We're doing our last cat lab Thursday and I'm nervous but confident I will be ready!
Microbiology is the most fun I've ever had in a science class. It's interesting, the labs are a blast and I'm doing AWESOME in it. I'd literally have to stop showing up to lose my A at this point. (Ain't happening!)
Check in!!
I just finished my Nutrition class (on-line) and only have my Chemistry final left. I've been accepted into a BSN program that starts next month so I'm finding it REALLY hard to concentrate on Chemistry. I will be glad when the next two weeks are over and I can relax for a few weeks before my life changes drastically!
First psych test down this quarter.. not bad.. got an A.. I am really excited however that on my first math test.. I got a 102% Yeah! She hid an extra credit question in the test.
First two tests in Phleb I have gotten a 100% and 98% so all is well so far.
Took my second math test last night... interesting thing.. it was a group quiz.. but what is kind of upsetting, is that a girl in our group did not know how to do long division without a calculator.. and was really struggling with equations and inequalities.. it is worrisome, because the equations are starting to get more and more complicated.
We have our first big exam in two weeks, and it is on three chapters.
She also did not know how to do a set builder notation and did not understand why you would flip the sign for negatives (multiplication and division).
I really hope she can grasp this stuff soon, our teacher assigns amazing amounts of homework.
I turned in 25 pages.. yep.. 25 pages of homework for 1 chapter yesterday... and now I get to start working on the next one.. we have an average of 300 homework problems a week.. and they are the lovely 1/2 page to solve each one.. fun stuff!!!!
I have only 12 draws left in my phleb class until the externship starts.. starting to get a little nervous about that... real patients, and the added stress of a real clinic situation.. no instructor or classmates to help.. ugghh
Everyone else hanging in there?

College algebra? Uck. That's what's so blah about math. I had a teacher for trig and pre cal that did, what sounds like your teacher does. like you do all the homework for these chapter or first exam and turn it in as a packet. Ugh those packets were huge!
Good job on all your As you've been getting! Hard work paying off!
Keep up the good work!
Lol and about her not knowing simple stuff. Really sad especially being in an algebra class. See I have done to calculus 2 for engineers and we use calculators all the time. So the higher up in math you go, the less you do simple things w/o a calculator. I mean when my bro needed pre algebra i was like, just use a calculator lol. I mean use ask me to take a derivative or take a an integral or w/e I cam do it on paper. but.the simple stuff. blah. now which sucks cause I'm taking a college algebra class in the fall. oh well. I will just release it. it'll come back to me.
Thanks! and the whole thing with being able to do this "simple" stuff, is that it is all extremely relevant to nursing. She is a pre-nursing student is why I was so flabbergasted.
You must be able to look at problems and be able to do them without a calculator.. things like multiplication, division, addition and subtraction... the long division thing.. I get it.. no one but me in our group likes to do it.. I find it oddly comforting.. can't explain.. any way.. what mostly struck me is that she couldn't clear variables from both sides...
We had a problem.. 5y+5= -20(solve for y) ( This is the EASIEST problem we could find for her)
She asked us why we got -5.... and how we did the problem.. and why we subtracted 5 from each side to isolate the variable.. I just kept thinking.. poor girl.. what the heck are you going to do when it comes exam time???
I am not looking forward to stats, but I will get through..lol.. I am finding though that for the first time in my life, I LOVE math. I have always loved science, and I am seriously enjoying psych.. especially the neurology stuff.. and the nervous system..
The question on the exam I think I missed was about B.F Skinner.. I think I got him mixed up with Tichtner...ugghh..lol
Hope your semester keeps going fabulous! I got checked off on Butterfly needles for draws today and finished up my capillary draws today.. so I only have about 9 more before externship starts.. egads!!
Well my novel is complete now... off to put the pony to bed, finish my wine and study some phleb! Enjoy your evening!

I had to reply to your post because it seemed like something I would write.. I love doing math by hand like that and it is comforting in a way. I think thats because its always reliable, you follow the rules and you'll always get the correct answer. I also loved the nervous system, it still is always my favorite system in my nursing classes. I had to take stats and loved it, it was much easier then I had thought it would be. Good Luck!!!! Have a good end of semester :)
Lol. How sad. That is an extremely basic, simple problemI can do that stuff, I just meant that I can't do them in my head.
Hmmm. How did she get into algebra? Hmmm someone skipped the placement exam lol.
Keep up the good work!
Keep posting!
LOL...She said she tested into it.. Not sure how.. but she jokes about failing the class.. so we shall see..
and I KNOW weird huh.. about it being oddly comforting?????? I think I love the order of it the most.. I like the rules and the order and the logical progression of it!
