Seemingly pointless classes

Published

Is there anyone out there who feels this way about some of their pre-reqs? I am currently taking Philosophy and Developmental Psych and I find these classes to be utterly boring and just completely pointless. I believe that my Philosophy professor knows that this information is pointless to us so she only requires us to do a little discussion board assignment and a chapter exam every week. No big deal. Just read and do the work. My psych professor must hate us. She is making this way harder than it needs to be. We have several papers to do before the end of the semester. We must read a chapter and a half every week and complete a chapter exam for each chapter and there are a few other projects. This is cool and all except if you don't understand something she will swear that it's in the syllabus or assignment tab or module tab. Yes everything is in three different places with several due dates. She makes it so hard and is super quick to fail you on an assignment. *sigh*. This class is boring as is. I tried to make the information interesting but when I see that I got a 50/100 on a assignment that information just makes me upset all over again. It's like conditional behavior or something like that. Every time I look at my textbook I think of my professor and I just get upset and I don't want to study. :crying2: But I must. *sigh* I must.

I'm grateful for classes like Psychology, Sociology, English, etc. Not only do they help boast of your G.P.A., they really do make your education more interesting. Imagine only taking clinicals? That would be horrible.

Also, I think those classes (Psychology, Sociology, and English, etc) are very relevant in Nursing. Imagine having a nurse who cannot write a care plan to save his/her own life? Or an ignorant, one-track minded nurse who doesn't understand different ways of thinking, the human mind, and other cultures? I'm glad I had to take those classes. They enriched my learning experience as well as added easy A's on my transcript. :)

I'm not exactly sure grateful would be the right word to use for taking a sh*t ton of prerequisite classes, but they definitely boosted my gpa!

thenameismac, Its sad to say I believe we have the same teacher right now. I will not name HER on here but trust and believe I am going through the same thing with her on-line class and she is by far one of the worst I have came up against at this school. I will be so happy to get out of this school when I am done. I had a math female teacher that must have been her twin last semester. I have went to the president as well as others to report this behavior nothing is ever done. I only continue to go since it is reasonably priced and the closest to my place of work. People will assume whatever since they do not go to this school nor live in Baltimore. Please check out ratemyprofessor.com and you will see it is others that experienced this as well. Good luck to you. I wonder if we are in the same on-line class.. I am glad to hear that you are improving in her class. She just failed me on my first developmental paper that she took 4 weeks to grade, with a million inconsistencies as far as format. Syllabus stated APA style, developmental paper stated something else. I emailed her 4 times she never responded. So to cover my tail I emailed her both APA as well as developmental style format and she failed me and stated that I did not follow directions. lol I am glad I passed everything else. I HATE THIS CLASS. I received an "A" in Psy 101 and loved it so NO it isnt "US" she is making it complicated with her inconsistencies, rude responses as well as disorganized class.

That is too funny. We are in the same class. I took Psy 101 at AACC and got a B (I didn't study much when I first started college a few years ago) and I was so interested in Psych but this prof now makes it so not interesting. The only "fun" thing about this class was this Virtual Child thing we had to do this semester. That was very interesting. I hope I don't get docked any points for finishing it 10 minutes before midnight the night it was due. :uhoh21:

how did you like aacc? i was thinking about applying to their nursing program but heard that you have to be in county in order to be accepted?? i am also thinking about staying at bccc or applying to coppin. my gpa will determine that decision. do you have any pre req classes remaining? i still have to take chemistry which i plan on doing in the summer as well as statistics  and i will be done. i enjoyed psy 101 as well and passed without any problems. the professor sarcasm as well as the fact that she is so unorganized is what really gets under my skin at times. i assumed that this would be a breeze and a better way to boost my gpa since i did well with psy 101. i don't know how this will turn out now. i have grown to ignore and avoid her as much as possible. i keep saying to myself that this is only temporary..we will run across co-workers and more teachers that have major issues that we cannot control. i enjoyed the virtual child as well and received a 100 on that assignment. i doubt she will dock you since you did complete it on time. did you understand the developmental assignment?

i actually like aacc a lot. it's way better than the city. i'm in their pct program right now. i take 2 online classes at bccc and the one program at aacc this semester. aacc has one of the best rn programs in the state. it's an overall great school but they are a bit selective. sometimes i stay in aa county so i just use the address where i stay sometimes. sometimes i stay in the city and i use that address for bccc. i plan to apply to coppin next year. i am more likely to get in there because of my gpa and i will be going for a bsn instead of adn. i took chemistry at bccc with shaw for lecture and abiodun for lab. i got an a. it was so easy with those two.

as for psych 104 i hate this prof. i took her class a year and failed. it's structured a bit differently now. i could have sworn she had one exam for every few chapters instead of an exam for every chapter but i like this better. last year i turned in my da and got a straight 0 on it because it was in apa format. i haven't gotten any grades yet this semester for the da or vc. i added a title page and paid attention to margins and added page number. actually i just looked and got a 75/100 (still no grade for the vc though). here was her comment if this helps: "

you provide some very good information about some developmental milestones achieved by your subject. good job on this part. however, there was few discussion of developmental milestones in the context of developmental theories and concepts discussed in your textbook. a few instances of some standards were seen; however, there were no in-text citations. of note, this is an assessment and should not be written as a novel. think about what you may read if you read your own medical history from a physical examination by your doctor. your writing is too informal and you committ a significant amount of paper space to irrelevant information. your discussion of your personal experience does not belong in this document. if you went to your doctor, he would not write in your record about his own personal life."

i am going to say i am satisfied since i didn't really try hard on writing the paper just on the apa format. i spend about an hour alone on the format.

Thanks! that really helps a lot. I hope I pass the next two. I really do not want to take this class again.. Literally everything has to be in APA format. According to my GPA Coppin will be my best choice if pursuing a Bachelors which is what I would prefer to do. I am going to apply to both BCCC Spring 2012 and Coppin Fall 2012 program. Oh and thanks so much for the Chemistry instructor info I hope they will offer classes this summer:w00t: everyone has been telling me how hard it is in which I was :chair: nervous as heck! I have to get accepted in 2012.. I have been praying about this for a long time.

Hi,

I took a Psych course last year at BCCC and I know this seems a bit strange but just from reading your feedback that you got from your professor makes me almost SURE that's that same professor I had. Dr. ******. She was just unusually harsh in her feedback, very unorganized, did not make herself available or approachable to students and just generally unhelpful. All the traits that you would NOT want in a professor. Anyway, good luck in your studies, I hope you did well in the course.

We did have the same prof. I ended up getting a C in the class. That was pure luck though. By the end of the semester, after I took the final I had a 59%. She still hadn't posted all of my grades. Like a week later, I checked the Student Portal and it said I had a C. I was so excited that I don't have to take this awful class anymore. :yeah::yeah::yeah:

That's just sad that just about EVERYONE has e terrible experience with this teacher yet she continues to be able to teach at BCCC without adjusting her teaching style. She just seems to have no regard for the student. She does not promote a healthy learning environment and it's difficult trying to learn the material when you're so worried about meeting her inconsistent deadlines and expectations. Teachers like her really discourage students and can turn away great candidates from even applying to BCCC. Anyway, thankfully we survived her course and were able to pass. Does anyone know any good teachers for A&P at BCCC? Due to my schedule I have to take that course online and I just want to make sure I at least have a good teacher.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I ended up receiving an "A" I was so HAPPY!!!! I am so glad its over though she was a huge headache for me..

Hi ASPNURSE, If you are taking A&P II you should take Dr. Iweha.. He is very good as I took him on-line and received a "B" if I wasnt taking so many classes at once im sure I could have obtained an "A". Professor Ward is good as well.. Love him!

That is awesome. Congratulations to you. I know you must be glad you stuck with the course despite the professor. Well, have you taken A&P as yet? And if so do you have any recommendations?

Thanks a lot.
